ITV NEWS APPOINTS ROHIT KACHROO AS UK EDITORITV News announced today that Rohit Kachroo has been appointed as UK Editor. Rohit, who is currently Africa Correspondent, will lead all coverage and provide in-depth analysis on the latest crime, terror and home affairs stories for the network. He will also provide special long form reports for ITV's Tonight programme and ITV's monthly current affairs strand, On Assignment.

In the coming weeks Rohit will join the reinvigorated UK bureau team, who have been responsible for leading RTS and BAFTA award-winning news coverage of the Savile scandal and Woolwich attack in the last two years.

Rohit Kachroo said: "Im happy to be returning to the ITV newsroom in London to report on the most important issues affecting Britain, as part of ITV Newss UK Bureau. Im proud of our reporting from Africa over the last four years, and look forward to the challenges of this new role at what is an important time for our country.

In the past few years Rohit has covered the biggest stories to dominate the African continent from the death of Mandela and the kidnapping of Judith Tebbutt to investigations into al-Shabaab's links to rhino poaching, securing an exclusive interview with Robert Mugabe on the eve of the Zimbabwean elections and most recently, coverage of the Pistorius trial, including an exclusive with Reeva Steenkamp's mother.

Rohit started his career in regional news as a reporter for ITV Central, followed by a turn as ITV News Midlands Reporter before moving on to become Crime Correspondent in 2010. The following year, his journalism was recognized by the Royal Television Society and he was awarded the coveted Young Journalist of the Year Award. He was subsequently appointed joint Africa Correspondent for both ITV News and NBC News.
