The 20th Suidoosterfees is jam-packed and ready to go! Festival-goers are invited to blow out the proverbial candles in celebration of the festival's 20th year, scheduled from 26 April to 1 May 2023 in Cape Town.

20 years of the Suidoosterfees From music and dance to visual art and theatre, this year's Suidoosterfees is set to offer festival-goers a comprehensive programme with special 20th birthday discounts.

The Suidoosterfees will kick off on a high note with the Afskop-konsert, presented in collaboration with the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Music Foundation. Plus, in the 20 Musical Moments, festival-goers will not only be able to see Andr Schwartz, Lynelle Kenned, Emo Adams, Pierre van Heerden and many more, but also the popular opera L'inganno Felice in Artscape's Opera House.

Image: Supplied Fans can also see the actors of kykNET's Suidooster in Suidooster Stormsterk 2 and the renowned Stellenbosch University Choir perform at the festival for the first time ever. Plus, kick off your shoes every night at Late Night Boogie, a musical variety show with Gary Naidoo, Lucy Tops and other top-class entertainers.

To celebrate the 20th Suidoosterfees, the NATi Theatre Festival will boast a total of 20 stage productions from Bul, a razor-sharp dark comedy to Mirakel, Magda Louw and The woman who fed the dogs - a sensational drama presented in collaboration with Belgian writers and artists.

Image: Supplied This year's Stemme series will feature 10 short, powerful dialogues with 20 actors, 10 directors and 10 writers involved. This innovative series proved to be very popular with festivalgoers last year and will be no exception this year when performances are free to the public.

Entertainment for all ages Young audiences can look forward to Aspoestertjie as die skoen pas, a quirky children's musical of The Stage Performing Arts Studio. Rafiek Mammon's popular children's book, 'n Goue ster vir Faizel, was adapted into a children's play, and Margit Meyer-R denbeck will be on stage in Verna Vels' Liewe Heksie vang vis.

NATi, the National Theatre Initiative, also brings excellent musical theatre such as Clara, Femme is Fatale, Woordmusiek, Ver in die w reld, Kittie and Mixtape van die liefde to the festival.

Comedy highlights Comedy will mark the 20th festival celebrations in various productions. Dean Smith, better known as Wade in Suidooster, brings his popular social media persona, Aunty Bettie, to share her stories for the first time at the festival in Hallo, is Bettie wat praat. Tollie Parton, with Wynand Kotze, and many other comedians in Lag meer as 20 keer, will keep the celebratory fires burning.
