NFVF Student Bursary deadline extended

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) invites prospective students to apply for its bursary scheme. The deadline for applications for is the 29 August 2014, at 12 noon.

The NFVF provides funding to students in financial need to pursue film and television related studies at all accredited tertiary institutions in South Africa. For the past years the NFVF has been awarding on average, sixty (60) bursaries per annum to qualifying students who are academic achievers and passionate about the film and television industry yet lack adequate financial resources to further their university studies.

Criteria for Application for the Student:

The Student Must:

Have already been selected at an institution that offers formal qualifications such as a diploma or degree

Be able to demonstrate financial need

Possess a good academic record

Motivate in detail why they qualify to receive a bursary

Submit a correctly completed application form and attach all required documents as per the application form

Be a South African citizen, or have permanent residency or have refugee status

Important Notice:

Five copies of the entire application must be delivered at the NFVF offices or posted

Please ensure that all details on the application form are correct

Incomplete applications will be disqualified

If telephone numbers or addresses change, notify us immediately. If we are unable to contact you, the bursary will be awarded to another deserving student.

Please ensure that all the required information is submitted to avoid the disqualification of your application.

First year students receive 100% towards tuition fee only, thereafter we pay 80% towards tuition fee only. The rationale behind this is the result of minimal resources at our disposal as we endeavour to find a balance between the number of students we support & how much we contribute towards those bursaries.

The NFVF does not fund Live Performance or Acting studies

Only certified documents will be accepted

Applications received after the deadline will be disqualified

Faxed or emailed applications will be disqualified

International Bursaries

Individuals may also apply to the NFVF for bursaries to support their studies at international tertiary institutions for film courses that are not available in South Africa. Due to minimal resources at the NFVFs disposal, 100% bursaries will not be awarded.

Supporting Documents

The following supporting documentation must be submitted together with an official application form:

A covering letter including personal motivation for study and its relevance to the applicants intended career path, as well as how the skills acquired will benefit South Africa.

A letter of support from the international institution.

Proof of excellence within the applicants field of competency.

Internal Process

Once you have applied and submitted all the required documents (as per the application form) before the deadline, an internal & external panel evaluates each application. Applicants are shortlisted and thereafter interviews are conducted to ensure that we award bursaries to the most appropriate students, who will ultimately become NFVF Ambassadors.
