Cisco expands into the cloud with Videoscape

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, Cisco announced it has expanded its Videoscape TV services delivery platform to include new cloud video capabilities, including a Videoscape as-a-service offering and open cloud software technologies based on OpenStack.

With the new set of Videoscape cloud capabilities, Cisco aims to provide simplified options to quickly deliver consumer experiences such as second screen and 4K video, and offer more customisation and personalisation for viewing and sharing content across multiple devices.

New capabilities include Videoscape Cloud Software. This takes Videoscape software, separates it from dedicated hardware and enables it to run on service provider and media company public and private clouds, including those based on OpenStack.

Also new is Cisco Cloud Fusion for Videoscape. This strategy enables service providers and media companies to mix and match elements from all modes of deploying Videoscape, including performance-optimised hardware and software appliances, cloud software and cloud services.

Videoscape Open UX Foundation software aims to enhance functionality and performance of gateways, set-top boxes and connected devices running HTML5 applications.
