Nowadays we are constantly being overwhelmed with information about Artificial Intelligence, and even though we all know about its existence and have an idea of what it can do, it's still very unclear to most people how to integrate it to their already existing solutions and daily tasks in order to get the most out of it. So if you are interested in investing on this technology for media management, keep reading to discover the key steps you need to follow to implement it in a successful way.
First of all, it is important to highlight how the generation of audiovisual content has grown exponentially in recent years. Users demand more and more content and the improvement of communication networks has made the massive consumption of this multimedia content anytime and anywhere, possible.
But the growth that is taking place makes it increasingly difficult to find the information you want. For example, in Broadcast and Media companies, archivists are finding it difficult to catalog and organize the metadata from all the audiovisual content created. In fact, not only media companies are facing this issue, currently companies such as universities, administrations, private corporations and others, are generating an increasing amount of audiovisual content and are starting to need tools to manage and catalogue it. Therefore, from VSN, we think that in order to implement this technology in the best and most efficient way, it is key that companies start first by asking themselves the following questions.
1 First, we must have a clear objective: Why do I want to implement AI services in my company? What workflows, tasks or processes can be automated and improved with this technology? Always, of course, relying on calculations and realistic analysis.
2 Next, we need to ask ourselves what type of content do I want to apply these AI services to? When implementing these tools, we must consider the fact that they are not equally efficient in all types of content (a plenary session in a congress is not the same as a football match) in order to assess its limitations without affecting the quality of the results.
3 In order to achieve these objectives and analyze the content that I am considering, what are the technologies that could be most useful to me? Nowadays, we have at our disposal the most varied technologies for image, text and audio recognition, and of course, they all have different applications depending on our interests, so it is crucial to pick the ones that adapt best to our needs in order to not waste any time or resources.
4 Another very important consideration: what business model and deployment of artificial intelligence will be more convenient for me? Here we should assess, on the one hand, if we want to have an AI engine of a private or public type and, on the other hand, if we would like to have it hosted on premise or in the cloud. Factors such as ownership, accuracy and safety of results are key in order to make a decision about what combination of AI system is more convenient for me in particular.
5 And lastly, a question that we consider key when making a correct analysis is whether our MAM system is ready to integrate these technologies or not. Is my content management system ready to integrate these technologies? What workflows should I be allowed to perform? In the end, we need to understand that this technology is as valuable as the sets of images and metadata that the AI engine analyzes, on the one hand, and as the use and management that we do of all this information through the MAM, on the other hand. That is to say, it is useless to have a service that provides us with an infinity of information about our media files, if then we are not able to select the one that we really need and analyze it correctly thanks to our MAM. Therefore, getting the investment in AI to be useful and profitable requires having a MAM capable of linking and understanding all the uncontrolled information offered by the AI engines, filtering and exposing it in a logical and coherent way and being able to integrate several AI engines AI at the same time and adapt to various data models.
Only by analyzing all these questions and answering to each one of them, we will be ready to better consider whether if it is worth investing in AI or not, as well as to learn how to make the most of these tools in our daily operations. In the end, it is very important to have a realistic vision of where this technology can be useful and where it can be a waste of our time and resources.
