The National Film and Video Foundation supports Durban International Film Festival

The NFVF will from the 16th of July participate at Africa's biggest international film festival, the Durban International Film Festival. The festival takes place from Thursday the 16th and runs until Sunday the 26th of July 2015. Attracting both film professionals and audiences from Africa and beyond, the festival offers a menu that comprise screening of world-class content, training and pitching sessions as well as workshops.

The NFVF on a yearly basis supports the festival financially; in addition, the foundation hosts industry foras from co-production to funding, and supports filmmakers that have applied to attend the festival through its funding. To ensure that the NFVF fully achieves its mandate, some of the NFVF funded films and projects from its Female and Youth Filmmaker projects will also screen at the festival. One of NFVF Slate films, Ayanda, co-produced by Terry Pheto and directed by award-winning Sara Blecher will open the festival.

I'm humbled by the festival organisers for screening the NFVF Slate project, Ayanda which was recently honoured at the LA Film Festival, as the opening film. Through the assistance of the NFVF, the local film industry continues to grow and make strides in the global film and enternainment space; and our local films continuously receive worldwide recognition, says NFVF CEO Ms. Zama Mkosi.

In order to recognise and honour creativity and talent, and in line with its vision of creating a viable film industry that represents the nations aspirations and celebrates South Africa's diversity, the NFVF will for the first present the Best Documentary Award at the festival. Our documentaries rarely make it to the box office, with us sponsoring this award and as a custodian of film we wish to create attention to this important genre that documents our lives, history and achievements, says Ms. Mkosi.

To ensure that the film industry is kept abreast of the NFVF mandate and achievements, the NFVF will host its annual Industry session on the 17th of July. This session will be followed by other informative sessions and workshops that include; Audience Research Presentation, NFVF Transformation Industry Engagement, Co-production sessions with Brazil, In Conversations with NFVF Documentary Slates recepients as well as Master Class on Scriptwriting and Master Class on Animation.

The Durban International Film Festival takes place at Elangeni Hotel, with screenings at venues including, SunCoast Casino, Musgrave, KwaMashu, Albert Park, KZNSA Gallery, Luthuli Museum and Durban Music School. For more infor visit www.nfvf.co.za and http://www.durbanfilmfest.co.za.
