RTS streamlines communications for the Volkswagen Group at biggest auto show in the US

(02/05/2015) RTS intercoms made certain the Audi and Volkswagen press conferences went off without a hitch at this year's Detroit Motor Show. Communication between the participants, control rooms, and technicians was assured by an ADAM-M matrix and a variety of RTS keypanels. To facilitate the preparation of SNG (Satellite News Gathering) signals, the systems on the two show booths were linked by fiberoptic cables and utilized IP-based OMNEO technology. Berlin communications specialist CS Com Solution was responsible for the design and implementation of the installation.

The RTS systems allowed participants, technicians, and control rooms to communicate freely on each of the two show booths, and also linked the show communications systems of the two booths for the provision of SNG signals. On the Audi stand, CS Com Solution opted for an RTS system with IP-based OMNEO network architecture. The center of this system was an ADAM-M matrix to which 23 CLD series keypanels with color displays were connected.

The keypanels closest to the matrix were interconnected via analog lines, whereas for the more remote ones OMNEO IP technology was preferred. With the OMNEO Keypanel Interface (OKI) cards, we connected the keypanels in series using fiberoptic cables, thereby minimizing cabling costs, relates Christian Drost, Technical Director of CS Com Solution. A BTR wireless system with 16 RTS beltpacks also gave staff freedom of movement.

Another RTS intercom system was deployed for the press conference of Audi's parent company Volkswagen, with Drost and his team opting again for an ADAM-M matrix. Among the peripherals here were 41 RTS keypanels and a BTR wireless system. The OMI card of each matrix allowed 16-channel signal and communications exchange between it and its sister booth using OMNEO and fiberoptic connections. In each case the local operator made the signals available throughout the system.

With the RTS communications systems deployed here, we provided users with a thoroughly positive experience, comments Drost. We were able to satisfy all requirements and the two press conferences were a total success. In the light of its own uniformly positive experiences with the company's products, CS Com Solution is poised now to invest further in OMNEO-capable equipment from RTS.
