Oscars 2023 nominations will be announced later today, but according to sources, several Academy records might get broken.

The past year has seen more than one sequel hit record sales at the box office. And, thanks to the success of Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, many predict tough competition in the top 2023 Oscars categories.

EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT THE 2023 OSCARS The 95th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday 12 March at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the ceremony, BBC News reports.

Predictions are streaming in ahead of the nominations to be released.

Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Banshees of Inisherin are firm favourites for best picture. While others belive Elvis, T r, The Fabelmans, All Quiet On The Western Front and The Whale will also score a few nominations.

THE YEAR OF THE SEQUELS 2023 Oscar prediction shortlists are flooding the internet and this year's nomination list could break records. Many believe this year's nomination list could include the largest number of sequels ever nominated for best picture in a single year, BBC News predicts.

No two sequels have ever been nominated in a single year, a fact that has critics and fans waiting with baited breath.

ALL EYES ON MARVEL AFTER FIRST ACTING NOMINATION Fans of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are still reeling after Angela Bassett won the Golden Globe for the best supporting actress in a motion picture. This marked the fist ever acting nod for a Marvel film.

And with the first film, Black Panther nominated for best picture in 2019, all eyes will be on the Marvel family for possible nominations.

According to BBC News Marvel films have previously scored 19 nominations. The film boasts Oscars for best costume design, production design and original score.

OTHER FRONTUNNERS After his win as best actor in a drama motion picture at Golden Globes, Brendan Fraser is one of the frontrunners for the best actor award.

Other films to watch include All Quiet On The Western Front and Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Austin Butler (Elvis) and Cate Blanchett (T r) are also predicted to get nominated.
