DaVinci Resolve creates an atmosphere very Shakespearean in Macbeth To bring to the big screen remake of Macbeth, the Australian director Justin Kurzel went to the director of photography, Adam Arkapaw and colorist Adam Glasman.

Macbeth, Duke of Scotland, receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that says that one day become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and encouraged action by his own wife, Macbeth murdered the King and occupied his throne.

Now, the Australian director Justin Kurzel)Snowrown2011) recreates for this co-production between United Kingdom, USA and France (See-Saw Films / DMC Film) this epic history of William Shakespeare. Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard interpret this new adaptation to the big screen of the immortal work of British writer.

After participating in the official section of the Festival de Cannes and the Sitges Festival, Macbeth Premiering internationally throughout this quarter.

For this new Macbeth, Justin Kurzel wanted an atmosphere most Shakespearean never seen until now.

To this end, he went to the colorist Adam Glasman. Of course, even with such a remarkable cast and innovative director, the adaptation of one of the most famous works of Shakespeare to the big screen wasnt going to be an easy task. Luckily, Kurzel had with director of photography of True DetectiveAdam Arkapaw and the rewarder colorist, Adam Glasman, who among other many works include Cold Mountain, Les Miserables, Casino Royale o World War Z.

Glasman recognizes that "there are some notable versions of" Macbeththat are points of reference for the majority of people, and almost all the main criticisms Ive read say that Justin Kunzel, director, poses a very different film since it was based on a strong clear vision of how the movie was going to look and feel.

A very personal match

One of the main elements is the very real brutality of the film. To create this atmosphere has been used the solution of color grading and finishing of Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve. "My work as a colorist is usually to apply the color to the perfection so everything matches and look and sit comfortably together, but this actually happens very rarely in this film deliberately. For example, the first battle has a cool bluish touch and then again everything very yellow. That is intentional, it is not supposed to match,"says Glasman.

Final battle

One of the favorite scenes of Glasman in MacbethIt was also one of the most difficult to roll the final battle sequence. "The final battle is quite bold. Its all very... very red. As if Macbeth had entered its own version of hell", Glasman said.

"It is literally, as red as the color range allowed us to go somewhat problematic when it comes to etalons with other planes together", reveals Glasman highlighting that part of the problem was the intention not to create a uniformly red image, but the introduction of red in the shadows up to yellow in the highlights. "One would think that using that key color would be easy because you just copy it from an outlet to the next but was very sensitive to the mismatch. This really jumps when you view everything else as a sequence", he says.

To perfect the scene, Glasman took advantage of the complete set of tools in Resolve to improve the depth. "Also I conducted a lot of selective blur to reduce detail in the trees bottom line, and to a lesser extent also use noise reduction in slow cameras captured with a Phantom."

Realmente me gusta la escena de la batalla final por la audacia de la misma. Tambi n me gusta mucho el aspecto de la escena del banquete que dimos un toque dorado polvoriento. Es la escena en la que Macbeth comienza a ver a Banquo a pesar de que le ha matado, l est alucinando otra vez y que en realidad recibi un disparo en la Catedral de Ely. Realmente es muy hermosa. Creo que la fotograf a de Adam Arkapaw resulta impresionante , se ala Glasman.
