Awards: 9 FullDome Festival in Jena

This years FullDome Festival held from May 27 to May 30, 2015 at the Zeiss Planetarium in Jena showcased a range of fulldome films, animated shorts and experimental clips. Zeiss has supported the event since 2008, awarding prizes to the best student productions in three categories. The Creative Award for the best idea and the Performance Award for the best technical execution are judged by an independent jury, while the winner of the Audience Award is chosen on the basis of votes from the public. Each award includes a prize of 500 euros. This year ZEISS also took part in a workshop: Franz Troppenhagen, a ZEISS product manager, discussed the topic of virtual reality (VR) and presented the ZEISS VR One VR glasses for smartphones. ZEISS is developing a special app for the glasses, which will enable wearers to view dome productions with the ZEISS VR One.

The competition featured a total of 95 entries from 18 different countries. This years Creative Award went to Aljoscha Seuss (Fachhochschule Potsdam) for the film Jalousien . The Performance Award was won by Christian hl (Hochschule f r Gestaltung Offenbach) for Am Ende eines langen Tages . The entry that received the most votes from the public to take home the Audience Award was Ein abnormes Liebeserleben by Deike Schwarz, Jonas Eichhorn and Perschya Chehrazi (Hochschule f r Gestaltung Offenbach, Hochschule Darmstadt). As well as the fulldome shows, the festival also included expert workshops and lectures.

The films submitted for the festival were shown at the Zeiss Planetarium Jena, which offers outstanding quality and meets the full range of fulldome requirements including 360-degree projection and spatial sound. The FullDome Festival provides a platform for the latest productions and clips in fulldome format. It also offers participants an opportunity to experiment with novel technical, artistic and stylistic approaches to this relatively young medium. This years festival included a total of 18 fulldome shows, 37 short films and 40 student productions.

Visitors were also treated to a performance of Light, a fulldome show specially produced for ZEISS which recently won the intermedia-globe GOLD Award at the WorldMediaFestival. "Light" was also given a special award at the FullDome Festival for its excellent science communication.
