Florida Healthcare Providers Begin Securely Exchanging Patient Information Using Florida Health Information Exchange Highlights:

Two Florida healthcare providers are first to implement Patient Look-Up Service.

MELBOURNE, FL/WASHINGTON, May 14, 2012 Two healthcare providers are now securely exchanging patient health information with the Florida Health Information Exchange Patient Look-Up Service developed by Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS). Strategic Health Intelligence of Pensacola and Atlantic Coast Health Information Exchange of Miramar which have more than 2.5 million patient visits annually have become the first providers to use the service. The service allows healthcare organizations and their affiliated users to query medical records of other participating healthcare organizations for individual patient data. The secure information exchange facilitates patient care, diagnosis, and course of treatment; enhances communications between hospitals, physicians and other providers; and reduces orders for duplicate tests, procedures, and medications. By June 2014, the Florida Health Information Exchange will include up to 20 participating entities across the state. The service also will connect to providers outside of Florida through the nationwide eHealth Exchange. Harris is under contract with the Agency for Health Care Administration to help develop a health information exchange infrastructure that connects health care providers across the state. Provider organizations scheduled to join the service include large hospital networks, federally qualified health center networks, regional health information organizations, and the 67 county health departments. Securely sharing patient data through the Patient Look-Up service will lead to better quality healthcare for Floridas citizens and reduce administrative costs for providers, said Vishal Agrawal, president, Harris Healthcare Solutions.
