DPA's d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphone Captures the Ultimate Sound for Grammy Award-Winning Engineer, Mixer and Producer Peter Moshay.

Peter Moshay was born with music in his blood. As the grandson of Joe Moshay, the renowned Los Angeles bandleader who brought dance music to decades of Hollywood events, Peter picked up his first instrument at the age of five and was hooked. Peter's early love for music and curiosity about the technology behind it set the stage for what has become an incredibly successful career as an engineer, mixer and producer. Moshay has worked with many of music's greats, including Barry Manilow, Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey, Journey, The Cars, Jennifer Lopez, Kenny Loggins, Quiet Riot and BB King, to name just a few.

For the past 30-plus years, Moshay has also worked consistently with Hall of Fame rockers, Daryl Hall & John Oates. His latest project is mixing and recording Daryl Hall's critically acclaimed television show, Live From Daryl's House, which takes place on location at Hall's club in Pawling, NY. Moshay also mixes all of the busy club's - live web shows.

On a neverending quest to capture the ultimate sound, Moshay has come to rely on DPA Microphones d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphones at the club. I've been a long-time DPA user from before they were even DPA, says Moshay. I first heard DPA mics at a dealer, and after trying them out, I fell in love with them. I have used DPA mics in some capacity on every recording since the '90s. I have used the d:dictate 4011, d:dictate 4006 and d:dictate 4007 mics. The d:dictate 4006 is my favorite audience mic. The first time he heard the d:vote 4099, he adds, was at Hall's club. A saxophone player was using it with a wireless set up. The second I heard him play, I knew that was exactly the sound I wanted. It was way better than any saxophone sound I had ever heard! When I found out he was using DPA's d:vote 4099 to get that sound, I knew I had to have them.

For the upcoming season of the show, Moshay plans to add d:vote 4099 piano mics into the mix. There have been many occasions where I needed a piano mic that would allow me to close the piano lid while miking it, adds Moshay. I've never been happy with any of the choices I've had until I tried the d:vote 4099P. Thanks to the d:vote 4099P, the beautiful Yamaha piano that we use on stage sounds as gorgeous as it looks. The d:vote 4099P was a great solution to this problem.

Moshay has also seen excellent results using the d:vote 4099s for the acoustic performances at the club. We have lots of bluegrass bands at the club and the artists are amazed when I switch them over to the d:vote 4099, he says. The difference it makes and how it sounds out front is just no contest to anything else. Acoustic banjos, fiddles, cellos, uprights any acoustic instrument I use it on just sounds great. I also love that we don't have to apply much EQ (if any) on the d:vote 4099. It is the go-to mic when I want exact sound replication.

In addition to the d:vote 4099's sound quality, Moshay is also a big fan of the mics various mounts. The d:vote 4099's mounting solutions are the best I've ever seen, says Moshay. Its design is not only sensible, but from an engineering standpoint, the placement is perfect. I had to have all of them because they address every single instrument situation and DPA made it affordable for me to do that. Many of the bluegrass bands don't like to stand in front of a mic, and they all love the different mounting solutions DPA provides.

Daryl Hall started Live From Daryl's House, a free monthly Web show, in late 2007. Live From Daryl s House expanded to broadcast TV when the show debuted in 95 markets on September 24, 2011. Starting with the 66th episode of Live From Daryl s House, the show moved filming from Hall's home to his club.
