South African co-production Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom has received four nominations for the 45th National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards in the US.
The nominations are for Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture (Idris Elba), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Naomie Harris) and Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture (Justin Chadwick).
Other films which feature prominently on the nominations list include The Butler by Lee Daniels with nominations in eight categories; Steve McQueen s 12 Years a Slave with seven nominations; while Fruitvale Station, directed by Ryan Coogler, received five nominations.
South African producer Anant Singh said they were hugely excited to be nominated for the prestigious NAACP Image Awards. He added, My congratulations go to Idris, Naomie and Justin, together with the tens of thousands of people in South Africa who came together to work so passionately on this film.
The awards ceremony takes place on 22 February and will be broadcast live on TV One Channel in the US.
