May 19, 2014 CBS Outdoor has partnered with More Art to present artist Andres Serrano's Residents of New York, which will transform the West 4th Street subway station in New York into a virtual gallery of Serrano's work. A series of 35 large-scale photographs will be displayed throughout the station depicting the state of homelessness in New York City. The subway gallery will be on display beginning today for the next four weeks, and will be viewed by potentially 2,000,000 riders.

Over the last several months, Serrano photographed 85 homeless individuals in New York City, creating powerful and lyrical images that take poverty out of the realm of abstraction, beyond statistics, presenting it in its candid and human dimension. In Residents of New York, Serrano removes his signature studio elements, focusing instead on personal connectivity and interaction directly on the streets of New York City where the homeless live.

The opportunity to convert a public space into a gallery and provide museum-like images to the subway-riding audience is a great way to showcase the diversity of transit media, as well as display the collective partnership of the Transit Authority and our community members, said Phil Stimpson, CBS Outdoor EVP/Transit Division.
