The Second Edition of Lab Macondo Focused on Production Design

The second edition of Lab Macondo, focused on Production Design, was held from July 11 to 19.

The program is part of a series of initiatives that Netflix will implement in Colombia during 2024 and 2025 through the Netflix Creative Equity Fund as part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion in the countrys entertainment and audiovisual industry.

The collaborative network formed by the Colombian Film Academy, ATAAC (Association of Art Workers for the Audiovisual in Colombia), CONGO Films School, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, FIACINE and Netflix concluded the second edition of Lab Macondo, focused on Production Design.

Supported by the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, the Production Design Lab was a training and creation space designed for professionals and emerging talents with experience in the trades of the Art and Audiovisual Production department, both Colombians and foreigners residing in Colombia.

This laboratory highlighted the importance of research in Production Design, not only as an engine to enrich creative processes, but also as a tool to face the various challenges of the audiovisual sector, including sustainability. From this perspective, more conscious practices in the use of materials, resources and work methodologies were promoted.

The laboratory was developed, including virtual trainings and in-person sessions, special guests, large-format references, practical and intensive challenges, master lectures, and the participation of renowned international professionals.

"Netflix is committed to the development of the Colombian audiovisual industry. We feel part of the sector, promoting projects that test and at the same time are an important platform for Colombian creative, technical and artistic talent. That is why we seek, together with the film academy and other strategic allies, to promote this type of training projects that help reduce gaps, such as Lab Macondo," said Pierre Emile Vandoorne, LATAM Global Affairs Senior Director.In the end, the beneficiaries held a face-to-face meeting with leading industry professionals, thus promoting the exchange of experiences and ideas to complement their training. They also attended a master lecture as part of the BAM program with the participation of Mar a Batagglia, art director of El Eternauta, Carlos Y. Jacques, production designer of Pedro P ramo, and B rbara Enr quez, production designer of One Hundred Years of Solitude.

"Cinema is a collective act and a wonderful art that allows us to tell our stories. Everything we can collect during that experience, especially by learning from those around us, is the most enriching. Thats why its worth sowing those seeds today, so that they continue to grow into the future," said Mar a Battaglia, art director of El Eternauta.This project adds to Netflixs other efforts in the country to help the Colombian industry achieve its full audiovisual potential.
