2016 has been an awful year, unless your name is Terence Neale. Terence has owned 2016, says Egg Films' executive producer Colin Howard. He's the most awarded South African commercials director internationally this year; the one with the most YouTube views; and the only South African director to have won a Direction Craft Gold at the Loeries for the past three years running.

This month, Your Future Is Not Mine, Terence's short film for adidas Originals, took home a Silver for Best Use of Music at the Shots Awards in London and two Silvers at the London International Advertising Awards for TV/Cinema/Online Film: Apparel and Best Original Song. Your Future Is Not Mine was also shortlisted at the Shots Awards for Commercial of the Year: Online (Up To Two Minutes) and at the Ciclope Festival in Berlin for Direction and Editing craft awards.

These latest wins follow the Johannes Leonardo campaign's two Association of Independent Commercials Producers (AICP) Awards for Best Original Music and Best Agency Art Direction, as well as its Gold Film Craft for Original Music at Cannes Lions, not to mention its two Golds at the Loerie Awards for Cinematography and Direction.

Produced through RSA Films with Egg Films, Your Future Is Not Mine challenges the dominant perception of the future being dystopian by inspiring a new generation to rather create their own.

The campaign has over 6m views on YouTube, which is pretty impressive by South African standards, unless your name is Terence Neale. Banana Brain, his most recent music video for Die Antwoord, is already on 15m; Ragga Bomb, his multi-award-winning music video for Skrillex, topped 100m in November 2016; and overall, Terence's ads and music videos now have over 200m views on YouTube alone.

Terence isn't one for listing his awards and accolades, so this article is probably already making him intensely uncomfortable, so we'll stop here, rather than talking about the other awards he won at the Loeries, the international work he's doing with the likes of Apple and Coca-Cola, or that he's just wrapped his second global campaign for adidas Originals.
