Cinegy & SRT
At NAB 2019, Cinegy demonstrated a broadcast playout from a server in Nuremberg, Germany to visitors in Las Vegas. Although the signal had travelled over 9000km, and was being played back on cellphones via LTE, the quality was unimpeachable and those who experienced it understood that the broadcast world had changed forever.
This was made possible due to Secure Reliable Transport (SRT for short) - a protocol which allows broadcast video distribution encrypted across public networks created by streaming kings Haivision and Wowza. When SRT is combined with Cinegy software it offers remarkable low-latency performance and crystalline video clarity, irrespective of the distance between source and destination.
Cinegy has been quick to see the potential of SRT and it is now integrated into all IP-enabled products. Cinegy Air, Cinegy Route, Cinegy Multiviewer, Cinegy Capture and Cinegy Live all have the possibility to input or output SRT streams and Cinegy software snaps together into a cloud-based broadcast infrastructure in minutes.
Lewis Kirkaldie, Cinegy's Head of Product Management, will be introducing these new Cinegy products and there will be a demonstration of their capabilities at the Open Day.
Canis Delivers on Air
Canis Television & Media is a UK-based specialist broadcast services company, providing its clients as a one-stop shop for everything from production facilities to asset valuations to traffic control. They have wide relationships with major broadcast platforms, turning broadcast ambitions into reality. In response to growing demand from its clients, Canis identified a need for channel playout facilities and looked to Cinegy to help them with the technology to provide this new service delivery capability.
The requirement was to enable Canis to deliver four channels (SD or HD), with inputs and outputs over IP and SDI. To provide continuity, the playout servers needed to be duplicated for redundancy. Two Cinegy Air PRO playout servers were installed. Under normal circumstances, each server handles two channels, but should there be a hardware failure, one Cinegy device can take over all four channels.
The result is a powerful and resilient playout infrastructure that meets the expectations of Canis's clients and has been achieved in a compact and cost-effective form. It can accept content and deliver channels online, with strong firewall protection, and it retains SDI capabilities to allow local ingest and connectivity to existing multiplexing.
