EURORADIO Development Fund finances new projects

One overall theme - World War I - but two very different initiatives: the EURORADIO Committee recently agreed to finance a program idea by Radio France and a multimedia approach delivered by the EURORADIO Drama Group. Both projects are in some way connected to the 2014 commemoration of the beginning of World War I 100 years ago.

Radio France poses a simple question: "For what would you die today?" Is there anything that Europeans at the beginning of the 21st century judge to be worth giving their life for? Family, nation, party, beliefs, honour...? Around ten EURORADIO Members are already taking part in this project, planning to produce their own programs on the basis of this initial question and sending the results of the survey to Paris. The funding will finance the coordination of the project; there will also be a brochure printed showing the findings of this "survey" including a public event debating the results.

The EURORADIO Drama Group asks Members to contribute short radio plays (5 to 9 minutes) which reflect the situation in 1914 in as many countries in Europe as possible. Half a dozen EURORADIO Members have signed up for this project already. The audio files, including translations in English and French, will be available on an interactive Internet map. This may also include audio slide shows, giving this historical content a visual component as well.

The EURORADIO Committee pointed out that although projects can be proposed any time, for the next round of funding, Christmas Day will be the deadline for applications this year.
