After parting ways with Open Mic Productions, Makhadzi has reportedly established her record label.

In April 2023, The South African reported the fallout between Open Mic Productions and Makhadzi. The award-winning star took to social media to confirm that her time with Open Mic Productions had ended after a three-year contract.

The record label issued a cryptic statement that allegedly confirmed that Makhadzi might still be under their management despite their contract woes.

Open Mic Productions director Nkateko Maluleke said: We will not be commenting on this issue as we are contractually bound by confidentiality provisions in the agreement entered into with our artist Makhadzi.

Against their statements, City Press has it that Makhadzi has since established her record label and management company to oversee all her bookings and other related matters. Makhadzi's statement reads:

We are all aware that the music career is very short, and I feel that it's time I grew my own business and myself as an individual so that I can leave a legacy for my family and those who depend on me.

Please note that Open Mic Productions will no longer represent me in terms of performance bookings and other related matters. From now on, all bookings will be handled by my own company Makhadzi Entertainment.

OPEN MIC PRODUCTIONS THREE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH MAKHADZI However, despite the three-year contract ending, the musician praised Open Mic Productions. Makhadzi has been the face of the record label of late, and they have been winning big, from album sales to awards.

In the wake of her newfound fame, she became one of Africa's finest acts on the international stage.

She headlined several international concerts alongside some of the biggest names in the music industry across the globe.

However, despite their big wins, the record label and Makhadzi have also had their fair share of fumbles. They wee embroiled in an R8.2 million lawsuit with a local sneaker company.
