KCET Premieres BBCs Hit Detective Series, Fr Brown to Lead Whodunnit Sundays Programming Block

Detective series Father Brown joins Vera, Rosemary & Thyme, Inspector George Gently in a compelling line-up of suspense and mystery

Burbank, Calif. - April 03, 2014 - KCET, the nations largest independent television station serving Southern and Central California, expands its Whodunnit

Sunday evening programming with a new exciting crime series, FATHER BROWN, debuting Sunday, April 13 at 8 p.m. The hour-long program precedes two of KCETs highly-rated investigative series: VERA, which follows the story of an experienced and brilliant murder investigator; and ROSEMARY & THYME, a charming, contemporary crime series about two gardening enthusiasts who find themselves caught up in a series of murder mysteries.

Beginning May 4, detective drama INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY replaces VERA at 9 p.m. in the Whodunnit Sunday line-up.

Set in the 1950s in the heart of the beautiful English countryside, FATHER BROWN stars Mark Williams (Harry Potter, The Indian Doctor) as a Catholic priest who also happens to have a particular talent for solving crimes. Father Browns world is quintessentially English: drawing rooms in large country houses, miles of countryside, village halls and secret gardens, as well as country fairs, railway stations and rural parish churches. . Many years spent hearing his parishioners confessions have given him an uncanny insight into the origins of evil and the workings of the criminal mind. But the stories are not concerned with judgment - Father Brown is more interested in saving souls than in bringing the guilty to justice.

Based on the short stories by G K Chesterton, each episode sees the enigmatic priest investigate a crime in his own particular way, using intuition and psychology. Father Brown discovers the truth of a crime by looking into the truth of the soul - the passions, dark secrets, and hidden desires. Full of humor and compassion, but with a big dramatic twist each time, FATHER BROWN remains true to the period charm of the original character and setting while bringing a sharp contemporary edge to the storytelling.
