WRAL-TV Viewers Donate Over $160K for 33rd Annual Coats for Children Campaign

The 33rd annual WRAL Coats for the Children Campaign ended up raising over $160,000 to help keep Triangle children in need warm this winter. More impressive is the thousands, yes thousands, of coats and winter accessories donated at neighborhood Jiffy Lube locations. The massive amounts of coats, winter clothing, donated toys and funds raised by WRAL viewers will provide much needed assistance to the more than 140, 000 people served by the Salvation Army.

The 2021 campaign concluded on December 31.

This recent bout of cold weather reminds us of how important a coat and winter clothing can be to families and neighbors in our community, said WRAL-TV Local Production Manager Don Ursich. I'm so proud to be a part of this major WRAL community initiative and have seen firsthand (during a coat distribution) what a coat, hat, or mittens mean to families in need.

Once again, the WRAL Coats team faced challenges presented by the pandemic. The weekslong campaign included A Day of Giving on Friday, December 10, 2021, in lieu of the usual telethon. The team also added a special QR code to make donating easy during the live specials.

This year WRAL-TV expanded our coverage to include the Salvation Army of the Sand Hills in Fayetteville.

Despite the pandemic, the WRAL Coats for the Children Campaign had an overwhelming response from people all across our viewing area, with people asking how they can be a part and collect coats where they live, go to school or work. Proof positive that WRAL-TV has the best viewers anywhere.
