Virgin Media has announced that over one million fans voted for their hottest films, TV shows, music and games in this year's Virgin Media Awards, revealing exactly what's hot in the world of entertainment for 2013.
For music fans, The Wanted followers have had their say as the pop superstars pipped rivals One Direction in a closely fought Battleground' for Best Group by just 0.08%. One Direction was leading most of the way, but it's clear The Wanted fans don't feel that Max's recent dalliance with Lindsey Lohan was an All Time Low. Despite this, the One Direction lads will be gunning to take home the British Group award at the Brits later this month.
After going home empty-handed from last weekends Grammys, Rhianna lost out once again to Justin Bieber for Best Solo Artist. Bieber Fever still clearly reigns supreme as the pint-sized popster also nabbed Best Album for Believe with over half (56%) of the votes.
Scottish singer-songwriter Nina Nesbit scooped the Next Big Thing in music award, narrowly beating indie-folk singer Gabrielle Aplin by 5% of the votes. Despite being only 18 years old, Nina is one to watch for 2013, after opening shows for Example, topping the iTunes charts and performing at some of the biggest music festivals last year.
Dynamo casts a spell over viewers to win TV Show Of The Year
The mysterious magician has triumphed over national treasures Sherlock and Doctor Who, who together walked away with a quarter of the votes. Magic-mad Brits voted in their thousands to land dishy Dynamo the top spot, with the notorious Geordie Shore crew coming in second with 21%. Surprisingly, TV favourite Downton Abbey trailed behind in sixth place with just 2% of the votes.
Despite losing TV Show Of The Year, Sherlock snapped up TV Moment Of The Year with Holmes impossible jump, which left Sherlock fans baffled when the detective leapt from a hospital roof in the season two finale. Benedict Cumberbatch also clinched the Best TV Actor Award with his arresting performance, narrowly beating Doctor Who star Matt Smith.
BBC One was named Channel Of The Year for the second year running, no doubt thanks to its stunning 2012 London Olympics coverage and Strictly Come Dancing success. Home of TOWIE and Celebrity Juice, ITV2 came in second with 13% whilst FX (FOX) snuck into third place with 12%.
Awkward alert! Recently split K-Stew and ex R-Patz win hottest actor and actress
Despite her recent controversial column inches Kirsten Stewart fans continue to back her all the way with fantasy movie Snow White and The Huntsman taking 34% of the votes to clinch Best Movie. Brooding Kirsten also pipped English rose Emma Watson to first place for the Hottest Actress award.
It was also a good result for Robert Pattinson, winning Hottest Actor with nearly half of the votes. Perhaps the speculation around his single status gave the smouldering Twilight star a helping hand with the votes! Second place was awarded to Avengers stud Tom Hiddleston followed by hunky Bourne Legacy star Jeremy Renner in third place.
Disney Channel favourite Selena Gomez picked up the Next Big Thing in movies award, narrowly defeating handsome The Perks of Being a Wallflower's Logan Lerman with 37% of the votes. No doubt her sexy role in upcoming comedy Spring Breakers gave Selena the winning edge.
Call Of Duty rivals admit defeat as Black Ops II storms ahead to win Console Game of the Year
Gaming fans crowned the epic Call Of Duty: Black Ops II Console Game Of The Year, with the Cold War survival game shooting down rivals Fifa '13 and Halo 4 with 22% of the total vote.
Minecraft for Xbox 360 secured the Downloadable Game Of The Year award, with critics describing it as one of indie gamings most astonishing and important success stories it's a worthy winner. For Angry Birds fans, Angry Birds in Space swooped into first place for Best Smartphone Game 2012.
Nick Forward, editor-in-chief of digital entertainment at Virgin Media said: This year's Virgin Media Awards have been as exciting as ever, giving fans their say on what's hot in the world of entertainment. You can never predict public opinion, with TV favourites such as Downton Abbey and the much loved Doctor Who proving less popular than expected. Meanwhile enthusiasm for boy-bands dominates the awards this year, with The Wanted and One Direction leading a closely fought battle for Best Group. Whilst fans of smartphone gaming are still enchanted by our favourite flying birds, as Angry Birds continues to captivate Brits.
