Best Sound Editing winner Glenn Freemantle and Best Sound Mixing winners, Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri, Christopher Benstead and Chris Munroused Avid Pro Tools , the industry's preeminent digital audio workstation, to edit and mix the audio for Gravity. Other audio nominees include Andy Koyama, Beau Borders and David Brownlow, who used Avid's System 5 control surface for Best Sound Mixing nominee Lone Survivor.

In the Best Original Song category, Pro Tools was used to create winner Let It Go from Frozen (Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez) and nominee Happy from Despicable Me 2 (Pharrell Williams). Users of Sibelius music notation software nominated for Best Original Score include John Williams for The Book Thief, Owen Pallett for Her, Alexandre Desplat for Philomena, and Thomas Newman for Saving Mr. Banks.
