Ajman University Media Students Bowled Over By Sharjah...

SHARJAH GOVERNMENT MEDIA BUREAU KEEN TO TAP YOUNG NATIONAL TALENT AND GROOM IT TO JOIN MEDIA SECTOR, SAYS DIRECTOR TARIQ SAEED ALLAY

HE Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) has underscored the Bureau's keenness to strengthen its engagement and partnership with various educational institutions in the UAE in order to support the nation's student community in all their endeavors, especially in training and grooming them for the media sector.

This came in his opening remarks welcoming a group of students from the College of Mass Communication and Humanities at Ajman University (AU) to the Sharjah Press Club (SPC), which is run by the SGMB, the media and communication arm of the Government of Sharjah. The AU students visited the SPC on Monday to familiarise themselves with the role and responsibilities of the Club and how it supports the media community in Sharjah and the UAE.

Speaking on the occasion, Allay said: Sharjah Government Media Bureau offers attractive job opportunities to graduates and training to all those interested in media work with the aim of creating an Emirati generation capable of leading the media sector in the future, he said.

He lauded the efforts of Ajman University to offer world-class media education and distinct competencies to nurture future talent, pointing to the importance of such visits being made to media institutions with the aim of enhancing communication and tapping the experiences of those institutions in refining students' skills.

For her part, Huda Al Dah, Manager of Sharjah Press Club (SPC), highlighted the experience of the Club, as well as its objectives, activities, membership programmes and work mechanism. She emphasised that in line with the vision of the SGMB, SPC coordinates with international press agencies and clubs to enhance cooperation, communication and exchange of expertise for the service of the media industry in general.

Al Dah said that the Club, which offers membership to media students of various educational institutions in the UAE, has attracted hundreds of members, including media and PR professionals and academics from within and outside the UAE.

She discussed the various programmes and initiatives SPC has worked on, including the News Cinema initiative, which was aimed at raising awareness of the negative and positive impact of different kinds of news, and the panel discussions and workshops that were held in collaboration with international news agencies and journalists. Al Dah also cited the electronic newsletter produced by SPC with the aim of spreading happiness and positivity.

On this occasion, the group of students who were bowled over by the various facilities and opportunities offered by the SPC, got themselves registered as members of the Club. They were briefed on the various amenities offered by the SPC, including the well-equipped media lounge, which allows members or journalists to do their work in peace, and the well-stocked library specialised in press and media studies and publications, in addition to a rich collection of books about the history, culture and achievements of the UAE in various fields.

The group of AU students visited the SPC under the supervision of Dr Shirin Ali Mousa, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Print and Digital Media section and Ms Layal Ayoub, Graphic Design Specialist at the college.
