FW de Klerk documentary to premiere at Durban Film Festival

F.W. de Klerk was South Africa's last white apartheid-era President. In less than four years he went from being Mandelas jailor to his deputy president. Together Mandela and de Klerk changed the face of South African history and warded off a potential civil war.

Yet little is known about de Klerk. Through his probing lens, award winning director Nicolas Rossier explores de Klerk's fascinating political journey and examines the legacy of this complicated figure.

Two years in the making, THE OTHER MAN: FW DE KLERK AND THE END OF APARTHEID, will have its world premiere at this year's Durban Film Festival.

The story of de Klerk is also the story of South Africa. Its oppressive history and stunning transformation continues to inform the country's social and political identity in very real and tangible ways and its effects can be felt on an international scale.

The film features in-depth, exclusive interviews with de Klerk himself, Thabo Mbeki (former president of S.A.), Roelf Meyer (former National Party Minister and chief negotiator), Leon Wessels (former minister of the De Klerk cabinet), Albie Sachs (anti-apartheid activist and former judge on the Constitutional Court of South Africa), Mathews Phosa (former ANC Treasurer General and former anti-apartheid activist), Yasmin Sooka (former commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission), Richard Goldstone (headed the Goldstone Commission investigations into political violence in S.A.), and many others who played a vital role in pre- and post-apartheid South Africa.

The film is a USA/South Africa co-production between Rossier's New York based Baraka Productions and Naashon Zalk Media, a Cape Town based production company.
