Sony and CTV partner to deliver cutting-edge OB Truck for high-profile sporting events

Sony has today announced that it has been working with CTV Outside Broadcast to develop the companys latest and most cutting-edge OB truck, which will be used by Sky Sports this summer as part of the broadcasters extensive cricket coverage. The new vehicle has been designed to encompass the latest demands for live outside broadcast and features an innovative new design that sees the width and height of the truck expand to create even greater production flexibility.

This next generation of OB truck cements CTVs position at the leading edge of HD outside broadcast, and supports CTVs move to a 4K future. Featuring far more IT than conventional OB trucks, it includes a larger router for 4K and 3G outputs, and a Bosch Adam Omneo Talkback system; all systems managed utilising the very first Axon Cerebrum control software full IP infrastructure. Its unique quad-expandable design allows the length, width and height of the truck to expand, creating a total of four production areas as well as extensive VT and sound areas.

Hamish Greig, technical director at CTV explained: We needed to re-think how we did things when it came to our latest OB trucks and developed this one with one eye firmly on the future. Not only does the truck need to be capable of delivering the best-of-breed HD coverage now, but it needs to be ready to support 4K in the future. The result has seen the creation of one of the most powerful OB trucks in the industry.

Having the highest quality equipment available is the cornerstone of world class sports production, and Sony has provided us with the best possible production and workflow solutions on the market.

At its core, the truck will provide more power for live production than any other. The products installed in the truck include Sony HDC-1500and 2500 cameras, the de facto choice for full HD production, as well as nine of Sonys LMD-A Series OLED monitors. Uniting the production workflow is Sonys MVS-8000X switcher, which is able to handle more I/O than any other production switcher in the world, all at 3G for true 1080p performance.

Sony and CTV have a long-standing relationship built upon a mutual passion for driving the future of live production and pushing new boundaries to enhance the delivery of live sporting events. Previous projects include CTVs OB10 truck which helped deliver coverage of some of the worlds most highly-anticipated sporting events, such as The Ryder Cup and British Open Golf.
