Harris Corporation Provides Enhanced Wideband Networking at Recent U.S. Army Network Integration Evaluation Highlights:
Radios with enhanced waveform delivered greater capacity and more flexibility.
Company successfully deployed its new 2-channel AN/VRC-114 vehicular radio system.
Reinforces Harris position as leading innovator in wideband networking in support of Army Capability Set process.
MELBOURNE, FL/ROCHESTER, NY, January 24, 2013 Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, delivered enhanced wideband networking capabilities to the middle tier of the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) at the fall 2012 U.S. Army Network Integration Evaluation (NIE). Soldiers at the NIE were able to stay connected and communicate seamlessly across the tactical network via Falcon III(r) manpack and handheld radios using the latest release of the Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2). The new release supports networks with up to 30 users through new protocols that intelligently identify and allocate available channel bandwidth to meet the Armys needs at the mid-tier level of the network. Harris developed the new ANW2 release based on direct feedback from soldiers during past NIE events. The increased node count and dynamic channel allocation provides greater capacity and operating flexibility at the important mid-tier layer. This new version of ANW2 will serve as the mid-tier wideband networking waveform for the U.S. Army in connection with Capability Set 13, which involves the initial rollout of an integrated tactical network to BCTs. Communicating at the mid-tier layer is critically important to the success of a BCTs mission. Warfighters need to be able to exchange voice and data communications, including command and control, situational awareness data and video, said George Helm, president, Department of Defense Business, Harris RF Communications. Our knowledge of wideband networking at the mid-tier and close relationship with soldiers in the field enables us to provide proven technology that delivers on this requirement. Harris is providing AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-152A wideband tactical radio systems to BCTs from the 10th Mountain Division as part of Capability Set 13, which involves the initial rollout of integrated tactical networking to up to several BCTs. Also at the NIE, Harris successfully deployed its 2-channel AN/VRC-114 vehicular radio system. The AN/VRC-114 met or exceeded all performance requirements at NIE. Harris developed this solution, which is based on its highly successful AN/PRC-117G, for the Armys Mid-Tier Networking Vehicular Radio Program. The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G is the worlds most widely fielded next-generation radio, combining line-of-sight, beyond-line-of-sight and wideband communications capabilities in a single lightweight package. The radio provides enhanced situational awareness of the battlefield by connecting warfighters to the tactical Internet. Harris has shipped more than 25,000 AN/PRC-117G radios to all branches of the U.S. military as well as over a dozen allies including Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Australia, Poland and several other countries.
