ONE IN TEN BRITS HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ICONIC DICKENS TALE A CHRISTMAS CAROL'

One in ten Brits have never heard of Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol' despite it being adapted for film more than 22 times in the last 100 years, according to new research out today.

The study of over 1,000 people commissioned by Amazon's LOVEFiLM - the film and TV streaming service - reveals that despite stars including Bill Murray and Michael Caine playing the role of Ebenezer Scrooge, a further 50% admit they have never watched the film about a miserly Victorian taken on a journey by several mysterious Christmas apparitions.

Christmas romance Serendipity also emerged as an unseen Christmas classic, despite being a box office smash hit upon release in 2001. A whopping 79 per cent of Brits admitted they have never watched the tale - starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale - of two strangers who meet on the streets of New York on a bustling Christmas shopping day.

What's more, over a third of the public (35 per cent) have never laid eyes on modern Christmas classic The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe', C.S Lewis' fantasy story of Aslan the magical lion and the heroic children who fight alongside him to break the frosty spell of the White Witch.
