Meet the dog that was invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace

More than 3 000 guests from 152 military organisations, charities and care homes gathered at Buckingham Palace last week for the annual NFA Garden Party.

The Not Forgotten Association (NFA) supports wounded service and ex-service men and women from the Armed Forces. Among the guests was Max the dog and his owner, Kerry Irving from Keswick.

Hero dog MaxMax, a springer spaniel, is a registered therapy dog and has received a PDSA commendation for his work. According to Irving, the 11-year-old dog saved his life after a car accident.

He went on to become a respected mental health campaigner, with loyal Max by his side.

Daily Mail joking referred to Max as a VIP - a Very Important Pooch. And in true VIP style, Max delighted the Queen, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, who couldn't resist giving Max a good belly rub.

Image via Twitter: @KeswickFestivalThe DofE Gold Award Elsewhere at the Garden Party, the Earl of Wessex the Trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh's award, accompanied by the Countess of Wessex, Princess Eugenie and Prince Michael of Kent mingled with guests.

The Earl heard how young people achieved their DofE Gold Award, which can be done through volunteering, completing physical challenges or developing practical skills. He met with their parents too.

The Countess of Wessex also met Darcy Bussell, a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, at the Presentations. Over 3 000 young people from across the country received their Gold Awards at Buckingham Palace.
