Lily Tomlin to Receive ICG Publicists Lifetime Achievement Award

Comedienne Lily Tomlin will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 53rd Annual International Cinematographers Guild (ICG, IATSE Local 600) Publicists Awards Luncheon to be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 26.

Lily Tomlin is being recognized for an exceptional career that dates back to Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In' and led her to become one of America's foremost performers across an ever changing range of media - television, movies, theater, animation and video, said Awards Committee Chairman Henri Bollinger.

The beloved comedienne has made her mark across all mediums, from television to movies to theater, from comedy to drama to animation. Anyone who is old enough will remember Ernestine, the irascible telephone operator and Edith Ann, the devilish six-year-old in TV's Laugh-In more than 40 years ago. And just this year she was nominated for two Golden Globes - lead actress in a comedy series for Netflix's Gracie and Frankie and lead actress in a comedy film for the Sony Classics' Grandma.

In between she has received five Emmys , a Writers Guild Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and that's just for television.

Tomlin made her Broadway debut in 1977 with the hugely successful Appearing Nitely, written and directed by her partner Jane Wagner and adapted as both an album and an HBO special. Her next Broadway appearance was in The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe, which ran SRO for a year.

She was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in Robert Altman's Nashville, her film debut. Since then she has starred in dozens of movies, both drama and comedy and everything in-between, including 9 to 5, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, the film adaptation of The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, Woody Allen's Shadows and Fog, Short Cuts, I Heart Huckabees and Pink Panther II.

ICG president Steven Poster, ASC. said, Lily Tomlin is a national treasure. She has brought laughter and tears to generations and I'm delighted that she continues to do so with her unique flair.

As previously announced, Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films, will receive the Motion Picture Showmanship Award. The Television Showmanship Award goes to John Landgraf, FX Networks CEO, and a Special Award of Merit will be presented to famed lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman.

More than 900 industry leaders are expected to attend the Awards Luncheon.

Entertainment publicists first formed a union in 1937 as the Screen Publicists Guild, later becoming the Publicists Guild. In 2002 the IATSE merged them with the International Cinematographers Guild (Local 600). The first Publicists Awards Luncheon was held in 1962 and has since grown to an event attended annually by up to 900 publicists and industry leaders.
