Desde la revoluci n mexicana a principios del siglo XX, el corrido ha sido una tradici n musical que canta las historias que merecen ser contadas sobre temas como la vida y la muerte, y las andanzas de h roes y villanos.
Al igual que otras formas de baladas picas, un corrido suele ser un relato de hechos reales y tiene una moraleja en la historia. Sin embargo, la tradici n del corrido es nica en su perdurable popularidad en todo M xico y en la frontera con los Estados Unidos.
La era cl sica del corrido naci con artistas como Los Tigres Del Norte, quienes, durante m s de 50 a os, popularizaron el g nero contando historias del pueblo, ya sea sobre la migraci n o formas de ganarse la vida, honradamente o no. Leyendas como Los Tucanes De Tijuana y Chalino S nchez est n siendo redescubiertas por una nueva generaci n de artistas que siguen sus pasos.
Hoy, el g nero est evolucionando al fusionar los requintos de guitarra, la tuba y acorde n con la cultura del hip hop y los beats del trap para conectar con una nueva generaci n de oyentes.
No es de extra ar, entonces, que sea uno de los subg neros m s populares en la actualidad, representando cerca de la mitad de los streams dentro del universo de la m sica regional mexicana. De hecho, en los ltimos cinco a os, la escucha ha aumentado un 91% a nivel mundial*, alcanzando los 24 mil millones de streams en la plataforma en 2021.
M xico sigue siendo el principal mercado para el g nero y la pasi n de los oyentes por la m sica sigue creciendo: el a o pasado, el pa s tuvo un aumento del 28%* en streams de corridos. Estados Unidos ocupa el segundo lugar en escucha de corridos y el a o pasado experiment un aumento del 16% en streams del g nero. La popularidad de los corridos tambi n est creciendo en otros pa ses, principalmente en Guatemala, Chile, Colombia y Espa a.
De la mano de una nueva generaci n de artistas, el g nero gana popularidad entre los oyentes j venes (entre 18 y 24 a os), que representan el 40% de todos los oyentes de Spotify. La escucha del g nero de corridos de esta generaci n aument un 116% en los ltimos dos a os, y estos oyentes han creado m s de 35 millones de playlists que incluyen m sica de corridos.
