Drafthouse Films and Drafthouse Beer - Four days of good movies and good beer The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Vintage Park is proud to announce a collaboration with Drafthouse Films and several prominent brewers for Drafthouse Films and Drafthouse Beer, a tribute to outside-the-box films and beers.
Drafthouse Films, the film distribution arm of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, is a curated brand of provocative, visionary and artfully unusual films new and old from around the world. Following the earnestly simple motto of sharing the films we love with the widest audience possible, Drafthouse Films debuted in 2010 with the theatrical release of FOUR LIONS which was named of Time Magazine's Top 10 Films Of The Year.
Beginning February 10, a different release from Drafthouse Films will screen at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Vintage Park. Tickets to the films will be only $3. Alongside each film, we'll spotlight a different beer from some of our favorite brewers. Each beer represents the same eclectic tastes and attitude of Drafthouse Films' releases. Each night, a representative from the brewery will be on hand at the theater to talk about their beer. Some of the beer will only be available in limited quantities so don't miss out on this week of film, beer and fun.
On Saturday, February 16, the series will end with a double feature of MIAMI CONNECTION, a 1987 martial arts film about a rock and roll band who fight drug dealing Florida ninjas on the side, and WRONG, Drafthouse Films mind-bending absurdist comedy from visionary director Quentin Dupieux, a full month before it is available in theaters starting March 29th. Tickets to this double feature will be $9. If you come and see one of the Drafthouse Films releases during the retrospective, though, admission to this double feature will be free. Just present your ticket at the door to receive free admission to the event.
During the Drafthouse & Drafthouse Beer series, well feature40% off any Drafthouse Films Blu-Ray of DVD available at the theater. Dont want to miss a single release from Drafthouse Films? Members of the Drafthouse Alliance get to choose any Drafthouse Films DVD or Blu-Ray from the Drafthouse catalog as well as automatically receiving a DVD or BluRay of the next 9 Drafthouse Films releases at their doorstep, along with special invites to exclusive Drafthouse Films events & screenings and periodic surprise deliveries of limited-edition film swag in the mail.
WAKE IN FRIGHT with Oskar Blues Brewery Sunday, February 10 Beer of the Day: Mama's Little Yella Pils
A lightly-hopped, medium-bodied, Bohemian-style pilsner with a zesty aroma and crisp taste. A perfect session beer.
Alongside MAD MAX and WALKABOUT, WAKE IN FRIGHT is widely acknowledged as one of the seminal films in the development of modern Australian cinema. Directed by Ted Kotcheff (FIRST BLOOD) and starring Donald Pleasence (HALLOWEEN, THE GREAT ESCAPE), WAKE IN FRIGHT tells the nightmarish story of a schoolteacher's (Gary Bond) descent into personal demoralization at the hands of drunken, deranged derelicts while stranded in a small town in outback Australia. Believed to be lost for decades and virtually unseen in America until now, WAKE IN FRIGHT returns fully-restored in stunning HD in what the New York Observer says may be the greatest Australian film ever made.
KLOWN with Karbach Brewing Co Monday, February 11 Beer of the Day: Rodeo Clown Double IPA
In what critics are hailing as the funniest movie of the year! (IFC), KLOWN follows two wildly inappropriate friends played by celebrated international comedians Frank Hvam and Casper Christensen as they run amok through the Danish countryside, plowing through endless awkward confrontations and unspeakable debaucheries. Hopelessly wrongheaded Frank kidnaps the 12-year-old nephew of his pregnant girlfriend in an eager attempt to prove his fatherhood potential, and they join sex-crazed Casper on his secret adulterous weekend canoe trip. Rampaging through exclusive brothels, hospitalizations, armed robberies and even prison, the three paddle downstream from one chaotic misadventure to the next, all culminating in a surprisingly sentimental portrait of friendship and a final shocking reveal that youll never be able to unsee.
FOUR LIONS with Saint Arnold Brewing Company Tuesday, February 12 Beer of the Day: Saint Arnold Divine Reserve # 4
Divine Reserve 4 is a Wee Heavy that has been cellared at Saint Arnold since being bottled in February of 2007. It has a nose of Irish coffee with hints of peat. The body is sweet and creamy--not thin, not heavy. Caramel malt, smoke, coffee and orange come in and out of focus several times as the beer moves across the palate, then it finishes with a light spiciness. ABV: 9.5%
In a British city, four men have a secret plan. Omar (Riz Ahmed) is disillusioned about the treatment of Muslims around the world and is determined to become a soldier. Along for the ride, but opposed to Omar and everyone else on Earth is the white Islamic convert Barry (Nigel Lindsay). Together they must strike a decisive blow on their own turf, but can any of them so much as strike a match without punching himself in the face? FOUR LIONS plunges us beyond seeing these young men as unfathomably alien. It undermines the folly of just wishing them away or, even worse, alienating the entire culture from which they emerge. The film is neither pro- nor anti-religious. The jokes fly out of the characters' conflicts, excesses and mistakes. Crackling with wit and tension, FOUR LIONS is the essential response to our failure to engage with reality and a high toast to the idea that laughter is better than killing.
