Showcasing Sustainability Success

The winners of the 2014 Global Sustainability Film Awards were announced on 8 December 2014 at an exclusive ceremony hosted at BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television), Piccadilly, London. Representatives from companies from around the world gathered to celebrate and share how their innovative sustainability practices are helping to drive environmental and social change through the medium of film.

After receiving the warmest best wishes of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales by letter, Awards Chairman Oliver Rothschild and former BBC television presenter Kay Alexander MBE opened the awards ceremony by welcoming guests and introducing the inspiring films. This year the competition was fierce with over 30 films being entered from Latin America, North America, Asia, Australia and Europe.

British actor Jeremy Irvine, who shot to fame in the Oscar nominated film War Horse, made a special appearance presenting the Best Overall Film Award to Thames Tideway Tunnel. Their film You Poo Too', which aimed to educate Londoners on the unglamourous topic of sewage, received two awards, also winning the Creating a Better Environment category.

The Fastflow Group, proud sponsors of the Community Investment Award, crowned educational charity Global Generation the winner of this award for the film Big Bang Project'. This short film showed how a socially and environmentally responsible community is growing in the heart of one of Europes

largest construction sites in London's King's Cross.

Next up was the Award for Inspiring Good Governance which went to Chepu Adventures, for encouraging sustainable eco-tourism in Chile, with the film Where sustainability is more than a way of living, it's a passion'. Accepting the award on Chepu's behalf was Georgie Bridge, from WWF-UK. It proved a big night for Chepu Adventures who also took home the Propeller TV Award for Innovation.

The Judges' Award for the most Consistent Global Sustainability Campaign was won by HSBC for two films; Investing in lives and livelihoods' by HSBC Global and Volunteering for the HSBC Water Programme' by HSBC NOW (UK). HSBC's five-year water programme, launched in 2012, in partnership with Earthwatch, WaterAid and WWF-UK, aims to provide safe water to 1.1 million people and sanitation to 1.0 million people in South Asia and West Africa. Sue Alexander, Senior Manager for Environmental Programmes at HSBC, who picked up the awards said, I am delighted to see the work of the HSBC Water Programme has been recognised. These Awards provide an opportunity to show how powerful a medium film can be.

Following the high excitement of the awards ceremony, guests relaxed and networked over an exclusive gala dinner, with entertainment from superb musicians Mark Wolski (keyboards) and Martin Lucas aka The Celturian (guitar).

With spirits high, Phillip Arnold, from Brendon's auctioneers, wrapped up the evening with one of tve's famous auctions. Guests were given the opportunity to bid for fabulous prizes including a week's work experience with The Daily Telegraph, a Phillip Treacy hat, Louis Dubosquet champagne plus a private tour of the vineyard in France and dinners at some of London's top restaurants.

Throughout the evening film crews from Propeller TV and the University of Westminster were busy filming and capturing highlights of the Awards and dinner. Propeller TV broadcasts on Sky 189 across Europe, on freeview across the UK, and on a Chinese online freeview platform reaching millions of viewers.
