Rohde & Schwarz R&S VCS-4G fully operational at MoldATSA Area Control Center in Chisinau Munich, Oct 15, 2013 - Rohde & Schwarz Topex SA successfully completed the transition phase of its fully IP-based R&S VCS-4G voice communications system at the MoldATSA Area Control Center (ACC), APP and control tower in Chisinau.

Rohde & Schwarz Topex SA has successfully completed the transition phase for the R&S VCS-4G system delivered to MoldATSA, the Moldavian air navigation service provider, bringing MoldATSA closer to SESAR objectives for an integrated IP-ATC platform.

The fully IP-based R&S VCS-4G system uses gateways to interconnect to existing radios with analog and IP interfaces, protecting past investments and enhancing MoldATSA air traffic control operations. Using VoIP interfaces in line with EUROCAE ED-137 standards, the voice communications system for the ACC in Chisinau successfully interconnects to the existing R&S VCS-4G systems at the Cahul, Balti and Marculesti airports (systems commissioned in 2011), providing an integrated nationwide IP-VCS system.

The R&S VCS-4G supports the integration of existing nationwide multivendor radiocommunications systems, for seamless migration from pure TDM to a future-ready, all-IP infrastructure. It successfully interconnected to neighboring ATC networks from Ukraine and Romania using MFC-R2 lines.

With the deployment of the R&S VCS-4G system at Chisinau Airport, the entire Moldavian air space is now controlled using voice communications systems from Rohde & Schwarz.

The highly advanced, future-ready R&S VCS-4G voice-over-IP system is in line with EUROCAE ED-137, the upcoming communications technology for ATC. It successfully replaced the existing, obsolete TDM-based system at the Moldavian ANSP.

The R&S VCS-4G features a fully redundant design with a large number of interfaces to external systems such as a voice recording system and telephone lines. Due to its unique architecture, the system is scalable and can be easily expanded without replacing existing equipment. The R&S VCS-4G already features next-generation ATC requirements such as asset sharing, facility consolidation, geographical distribution and virtual center, supporting the efficiency and safety objectives of global aviation.
