Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane appears to have conceded the title race to Orlando Pirates whom he feels are favourites to claim the title now.
Pirates lead the PSL on 50 points but the teams in second and third have played less games than the Buccaneers who have just three league games left. Bidvest Wits in second place ad Sundowns in third have both accumulated 44 points, though Downs haul came in one fewer match.
Sundowns face the prospect of being docked points for the indiscretion of fielding the ineligible Wayne Arendse against Wits last year.
Mosimane opined that maybe next year' will be Sundowns year, though very few will be taken in by what appear to be mindgames aimed at putting pressure on Pirates.
I think Pirates have got a good team to win the league to be honest ,and fairly. Fairly they can win it, fairly. That's what I believe, they can win the league straight, said Mosimane.
Maybe next year Sundowns will win the league. Let's try next year.
Former Orlando Pirates defender Lizo Mjempu believes that Sundowns bid to win the Caf Champions League will prevent them form achieving domestic glory.
I think Sundowns' Champions League participation could prove to be detrimental to their league campaign as the season nears an end, Mjempu told Soccer Laduma.
Sundowns still have to play against SuperSport United in one of their remaining matches. SuperSport is a very tough team with experienced players and it won't be easy for Sundowns against them. With due respect to all the teams, looking at the remaining matches for Pirates and Sundowns, Pirates' matches are not tougher than those of Sundowns.
Sundowns are preparing for a very busy week. They will face Baroka FC on Saturday 20 April at the Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane, before hosting Chippa United on Tuesday, and then switching focus to their Champions League semi-final first leg against Wydad Casablanca, scheduled for Friday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
