PlayBox Technology reports a highly successful 2014 NAB Show, exhibiting near its new Masstech partner in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 7-10. The exhibitiont attracted more than 93,000 registrants from over 150 countries, a 4 per cent increase on 2013 registrations. Total show area was 940,000 square feet, 7 per cent up on 2013, supported by 1,725 exhibiting companies. 27 per cent of attendees were from outside the USA.

Our new partnership with Masstech helped make this an outstandingly successful show in the 10 years PlayBox Technology has exhibited at NAB, comments Phillip Neighbour, Business Development Manager of PlayBox Technology UK. We met many existing clients and a substantial proportion of potential new customers. NAB is still a predominantly American show but the number of booth visitors from Scandinavia, mainland Europe and Africa was very gratifying.

The high reputation of Masstech in the Americas and PlayBox Technology among EAME and APAC broadcasters look set to make the corporate partnership a very strong one, adds Peter Petrov, PlayBox Technology Marketing Manager. Masstech offers the worlds most comprehensive content asset management and archiving system. PlayBox Technology produces the worlds most widely used channel-in-a-box production and playout solution. Combining the two systems allows content manipulation, storage and playout to be performed within a single control environment supported by a single reference database.

PlayBox Technology announced a major new addition to its product range at the 2014 NAB Show. CaptureBox PRO enables multiple channels of HD or SD content to be captured from a SDI and IP sources. It accepts HD/SD SDI, analogue sources and MPEG transport streams. All four video sources can be monitored on a single screen and controlled via a new streamlined user interface. Audio levels can be monitored as loudness/true-peak displays and adjusted when required. The ingested materials are available for playback seconds after ingest commences. The CaptureBox PRO feature set also includes capture list import from third-party traffic systems, support for CEA-608/708 closed-captioning and automated VTR control via RS-422 with batch-capture listing.

PlayBox Technology also chose NAB 2014 as the launch venue for the latest version of its AirBox universal playout and streaming automation server. AirBox provides automated content playout for satellite channels, cable head-ends, over-the-air broadcasters and corporate TV users. The new version incorporates a GPU-enhanced graphics mixing engine which allows video rotation effects and depth-order laying effects to be performed in real time. Logo animation facilities are also added with a multiplicity of applications in titling, captioning or channel branding. The audio capabilities of AirBox are also expanded with support now provided for Dolby E and Dolby Digital Plus. In its automated playout mode, AirBox allows fixed-time scheduling for weeks ahead. AirBox can be used for live production as well as automated playout. Every clip in the playlist, except the one currently playing, can be trimmed, edited or repositioned seamlessly without stopping current playout session.
