Joensuu, Finland, April 2, 2014 - Blancco, the global leader in data erasure and computer reuse solutions, has expanded its global presence by opening a new subsidiary in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Drivers for the expansion include increasing demand in Southeast Asia for secure data erasure, as well as Blancco's recent agreement to provide data erasure to KT Corporation (formerly Korea Telecom), one of Korea's largest mobile network operators.

South Korea has Asia's most stringent data protection laws, which drives enormous demand for secure data erasure solutions, said Kim V is nen, CEO and Co-Founder of Blancco. By opening this subsidiary, our goal is to better serve customers like KT Corporation, as well as other organizations, with solutions, best practices, and local support.

In South Korea, buy-back and trade-in programs for mobile devices are common. Because many used devices from such programs are sold on the second-hand market and millions of used smartphones are shipped overseas annually, erasing device data is an essential practice.

To protect personal identification and other sensitive data on all types of electronic media, South Korea enacted the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) in 2011. This legislation includes PIPA Article 16, which requires deletion of electronic files using a method that makes data recovery impossible, such as Blancco's.

Because portable and technically sophisticated solid-state drives (SSDs) are regularly used in South Korea, Blancco is in further demand because we offer the only secure solution for erasing SSDs while maintaining their value, V is nen said.
