Washington, DC Gets Unique Post House

All before officially opening its doors, Capital Audio Post completed the sound editing and mixing for a three part mini-series ( Heroes of Hells Highway ) for the Discovery Channel, four shows for National Geographic ( Big Cats , two episodes of Empire Wars , and American Tiger ), and two DC Cupcakes episodes for TLC. Now in its first year of business, veteran audio mixers Frank Scheuring and Chip Sovek recently launched Capital Audio Post a unique post-production facility located in Merrifield, Virginia a stone's throw from the Capital Beltway circling Washington, DC.

Partners Frank Scheuring and Chip Sovek are industry veterans; each with a focus on audio. Frank has been in audio post for 12 years and has worked on over 1,200 long form programs and hundreds of short form pieces. He has edited and mixed audio for numerous award winning programs including the highly acclaimed series Planet Earth for Discovery Communications which was nominated for seven Emmy Awards including Outstanding Sound Mixing . Chip, a 20+ year veteran, has a career that spans the music side of the business and audio post. He won the DC Peer Award for Outstanding Mix on the Smithsonian Networks highest rated series Stories From the Vaults and has a number of other industry awards and nominations.

After weeks of location scouting, it wasnt hard to see that the best home for Capital Audio Post was adjacent to the newly built Mosaic District in Merrifield, Virginia. This innovative retail and entertainment experience is a short walk from the facility and a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner. We built our facility with the client in mind. We wanted easy access and plenty of surrounding amenities , says Scheuring. Additionally, being near all major travel routes and in close proximity to the regions Metro system made this location an excellent choice.

Capital Audio Post was created to serve the needs of a client base that has transitioned to a file based world. In this new era timing and turn-around times are everything. Sovek comments, A file based workflow is fantastic...if it's managed right; but now we need to wear the media manager' hat in addition to our mixer' hat! Over the past few years Frank and Chip have created a workflow that optimizes the time allowed for audio post. Focusing on what they each do best, the tasks are divided between the two and accomplished faster than usual. They have successfully utilized this process on a number of series, including: Heroes of Hells Highway (Discovery), Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan (G4), and DC Cupcakes (TLC). Scheuring says, Since weve been working together for so long, Chip and I really know each others strengths and make the best use of them. Combine that with the speed of our Fairlight systems and we can knock out massive amounts of work in a short period of time.
