
The Dolby Theatre Oscar dresses Para la gran noche de los scars, Dolby prepar en tan solo tres d as un recinto que cuenta con m s de 16.500 metros cuadrados, un techo de 26 metros de alto y una capacidad de 3.400 asientos.
Dos mil quinientos invitados desfilaron anoche por la alfombra del Dolby Theatre de Hollywood para la asistir a la ceremonia de entrega de los Oscars.
David Gray, director t cnico de Dolby para estrenos y encargado del dise o del sistema de sonido Dolby Atmos en el popular recinto esc nico, ha destacado el enorme esfuerzo necesario para acondicionar este espacio para que el equipo de los scar pudiera dise ar los elaborados escenarios y prepararse para el espect culo. Para comprender mejor la magnitud del trabajo de preparaci n del cine previo a los scar, es necesario considerar el tama o del Dolby Theatre con una adecuada perspectiva.
Con m s de 16.500 metros cuadrados, un techo de 26 metros de alto y una capacidad de 3.400 asientos, el Dolby Theatre es uno de los cines m s grandes del pa s; cuatro veces m s que su vecino, el TLC Chinese Theatre, conocido como Grauman's Chinese Theater. En contraste, el Ziegfeld de Nueva York, uno de los emblem ticos cines con marquesina del pa s, dispone de unos 1300 asientos, mientras que los cines a los que solemos acudir m s habitualmente, como los cines AMC y los IMAX, tienen una capacidad de unos 500 y 300-400 asientos respectivamente.
Sin embargo, los elementos que hacen que el Dolby Theatre sea un lugar tan impresionante para disfrutar de una pel cula, como los cientos de altavoces y la enorme pantalla, suponen un obst culo a la hora de realizar un espect culo en directo con muchos protagonistas. La mayor parte del trabajo que Gray, vicepresidente de Servicios Internacionales y Relaciones de la Industria, y su equipo llevan a cabo antes de los scar es retirar cientos de elementos t cnicos del cine para acoger un escenario personalizado, dejar sitio para todos los presentadores y estrellas, y asegurarse de que todos los invitados vean bien el escenario desde sus asientos.
En primer lugar, para dejar lugar al amplio escenario de los scar, ha sido necesario desmontar la gigantesca pantalla de 18 9 metros que cuelga del arco del proscenio del escenario gracias a un complejo y pesad simo sistema de fijaci n que la soporta tanto la pantalla como numerosos altavoces. Dicho sistema de fijaci n incluye 58 metros de la estructura met lica que aguanta el peso de la pantalla, unos 27 metros de otra que sujeta el tel n y 7 metros de barras de donde cuelga la tela. Hay que desmontar todo esto y, adem s, los altavoces de la pantalla (solo en ella hay 58), 30 motores y puntos de fijaci n, 8 enormes subwoofers, equipos de sonido, sistemas de distribuci n el ctrica, bultos varios y fundas de cables. Cuando se descuelga la pantalla, se enrolla y se introduce en una caja protectora.
El equipo de Gray y el personal del cine han llevado a cabo todo este desmontaje de una forma muy meticulosa.
Despu s, toc desplazar algunos altavoces de sonido envolvente. El Dolby Theatre presume de tener 201 de los mejores altavoces que existen en el mundo, con 261 canales de amplificaci n de potencia. Dispone de la incre ble cifra de 143 altavoces de sonido envolvente, 68 de los cuales deben retirarse para acoger los scar. El equipo de Gray tambi n retir los gigantescos sistemas de distribuci n el ctrica, que l describe como cajas bien fuertes llenas, literalmente, de toneladas de cables el ctricos. Para hacerse una idea del equipo que se necesita para que el cine cuente con los mejores sistemas de imagen y sonido disponibles, solo en cables hay m s de 15.000 metros.
Cuando por fin se desmontaron las miles de toneladas de altavoces, cables, m quinas y la ic nica y colosal pantalla de cine por parte de un equipo de una veintena de profesionales durante tres jornadas, lleg el dilema de qu hacer con todo. Cada parte del equipo retirado del cine se clasific y catalog . Todo lo que necesitaba mantenimiento se ha colocado cuidadosamente dentro de un tr iler de m s de 13 metros, y trasladado a un almac n. El resto del equipo y los cables se han almacenado en un espacio hecho a medida en el aparcamiento del Dolby Theatre.
