The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) is pleased to announce that NFVF Quarter 3 funding decisions have been released. The list of all the projects approved is available on the NFVF website under Funding Cycle.
The development comes after Ms Zama Mkosi had been in constant contact with the DAC to ensure that the previously reported funding delay was swiftly resolved.
Ms Mkosi is also pleased to state that despite the funding delays NFVF has met and exceeded its funding targets for 2014/2015 financial year.
In terms of its 2014/15 Annual Performance Plan, the NFVF committed to the following:
Development funding - A target of 31 projects in documentary and fiction: 34 projects were supported.
Production funding - A target of 25 projects in documentaries and fiction: 30 projects were supported
Bursaries - 61: 61 local and international bursaries were allocated.
The meeting and exceeding of targets is testament to the NFVF's commitment to serving the film industry, and the NFVF will continue to contribute towards the industry's growth as mandated by the NFVF Act.
In light of the above targets being met and exceeded, in Quarter 4 the NFVF is calling on applications for funding ONLY in the following areas;
2x Development of TV Formats @ R200 000 each;
2x Documentary of Archive @ R250 000 each;
9x DVD Distribution Film Marketing support @ R180 000 each;
1x Festival Funding @ R350 000
The NFVF encourages all those filmmakers who are exploring straight-to-DVD distribution method to apply for its DVD Distribution Fund. Majority of our filmmakers are struggling to get their films in the traditional exhibition platforms, therefore this fund ensures that their films are seen by a greater majority of the South African audience, says Ms. Zama Mkosi. Ms. Mkosi further highlighted that filmmakers who wish to develop new TV Formats should take advantage of this opportunity. The TV format fund was designed for filmmakers towards creating their own idea which they can exploit for long term financial gain and in this way ensuring sustainability. NB: View the funding criteria for all categories.
The NFVF will inform applicants of the outcome of the applications at the end of March 2015. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications received after the deadline will only be considered for the following quarterly meeting of council.
