
Half of the consumption of content in Spain could be mobile and on-demand in 2020 The smartphone, according to the study of Ericsson ConsumerLab, will be the preferred device to see television and video, according to the eighth report on consumption of TV by Ericsson in 13 countries, including Spain. In 2020 alone will be 9% of spectators "of armchair", those who see the TV exclusively issued at the time and on traditional screens.
In Spain, half of TV and video content automobiles on a mobile screen by 2020, three times more than in 2010. Almost 50% of the viewing will be on-demand and the smartphone will be the most common device (20% of the total), according to the eighth annual report on consumption of television made by Ericsson in 13 countries.
The study predicts that by 2020 the content on-demand will be 46% of total viewing time, while 54% will be corresponding to the linear (traditional) TV.
But although it will not disappear this way "traditional" watch TV, Ericsson expected in three years only 9% of viewers called there "of armchair", those who see only the programs emitted at the same time and on the TV all the
life.
Currently, 74% of Spanish consumers already are TV and video on smartphones, almost three times that in 2012 (27% then). In comparison, globally 70% uses the smartphone for viewing multimedia content, double that five years ago. This device is being imposed, and continue to do so, to other screens such as tablet, laptop, or desktop.
On the other hand, the increase in mobile viewing is changing the time dedicated to the discovery of content. Millennials (young people aged 16-34) Spaniards spend 33 minutes on average per day looking for what to see before making a decision, almost twice as many consumers of more than 35 years. The average time we invest the Spaniards looking for something to do has increased 10% from 2016 (from 50 to 54 minutes per day), including both traditional television and VOD.
Virtual reality
The study also reveals that the virtual reality (VR) will gain ground and by 2020 will be used by 3 out of every 10 Spanish. 80% of those users were initiated in the VR less than a year ago.
The social quality and immersive VR technology is adding a new and valuable dimension to the viewing experience. The forecast of one-third of consumer used VR in 2020 explains that technology will play an essential role in the future of TV and video.
