Three-dimensional planning and presentation tools have long been developed for architects and interior designers and have become an essential part of the design process. Now ZEISS and the software vendor GRAPHISOFT can offer the next level of immersive visualisation technology. The world's leading architecture software, ArchiCAD 17 now works with the cinemizer OLED 3D multimedia glasses and headtracker, giving architects and their clients a first person perspective to navigate through building designs in an immersive 3D virtual world.

Franz Troppenhagen, cinemizer product manager, explains that, "The user moves through the 3D virtual building like in a computer game. The headtracker relays to all head-movements 1:1, letting the viewer look around in a natural and intuitive way. Building designs can be viewed not simply from a static point, but can be explored in a lifelike way. "

The system is simple and fast to use. The interactive presentation tool uses BIMx files created with Archicad 17 to display building designs with just a few clicks on a computer. For mobile viewing, there is an app available on most smartphones and tablets to display the designs. The cinemizer OLED is connected using HDMI or the Apple Lightning adaptor. The computer version of the BIMx Viewer has the additional ability to output side-by-side stereoscopic 3D video, for an even more immersive experience. The head-

tracker accessory is recognized by PCs and laptops as a computer mouse, and is connected via USB port. So the system is set up in seconds, without the need for drivers in either the PC or Mac version.

This means architects can provide clients with an authentic experience of their design, even while away from their offices. The details and elements of the building can be demonstrated to the customer, and it is even possible to update the design elements with customer suggestions during the live presentation. So the room layout, the window position or arrangement of the stairs could be updated while the customer watches. The BIMx Viewer works with a specially developed rendering-engine, which ensures short loading times and fast, seamless movement through the virtual building. The cinemizer OLED and headtracker add significant value to the visualisation experience, offering a natural and simple way to navigate and view building designs in BIMx. An optional eyeshield is simple to add to the cinemizer OLED, which seals out external distractions to the virtual reality experience so that users can be immersed in the virtual world wherever they are, even in a busy office or showroom.
