Design Veteran David Atkinson Joins The Foundry as Head of Design for Commercial Products
The Foundry, provider of award-winning creative software used globally by leading artists, boosted its design expertise today, naming David Atkinson as its head of design for Commercial Products. Atkinson joins The Foundry after several years as creative director at Saddington Baynes, where he worked on campaigns for Honda, Infiniti and Dyson, as well as with advertising agencies such as Wieden&Kennedy, TBWA and Saatchi & Saatchi. Prior to Saddington Baynes, Atkinson worked in product design at Autodesk (formerly Alias) and as a CAD sculptor in Apple Computer's industrial design team. In his new role, Atkinson will work closely with The Foundry's leadership team to deliver creative software that solves real-world challenges for the design industry.
The Foundry understands that it's critical to first understand how product designers think and work, and then to create the right solutions meet those needs, said Bill Collis, chief executive officer, The Foundry. As we push further into the design industry, David gives us invaluable real life insights as to how we can deliver solutions that make design more efficient, more accessible and more relevant to all kinds of business, without disrupting the creative process by which designers work.
The customer-centric way in which The Foundry develops solutions is one of the things that I found most attractive about the company, said Atkinson. By taking this approach, our solutions can preserve the artistry of the product designers, while elevating the design industry as a whole with faster, better, more transparent technology. For me, as a designer, the power, speed and ease-of-use of The Foundry's solutions translate to a higher fidelity design intent, more flexibility and faster time to market with the final product. These benefits are critical in the design industry and I'm excited to join a team that's constantly thinking about these things on the design market's behalf.
Adding Atkinson to The Foundry is the latest in a series of moves by the company to increase its impact on the design market. Atkinson's hire complements the addition of Doreen Lorenzo to The Foundry's Board of Directors last year. Together, along with Yazan Malkosh, The Foundry's head of Design, they will help grow The Foundrys presence in this exciting market.
