Phased shutdown of analog television broadcasting in the Republic of Belarus continues 30.01.2015

The Ministry of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus has informed that, in accordance with the schedule of the phased shutdown of analog television broadcasting in the territory of the Republic of Belarus, from February 1, 2015 the shutdown of analogue television transmitters with UHF waves will be carried out at Radio and Television Transmitting stations (RTTS) in Volozhin. The transmitters broadcasted the following programs:

Belarus 1 at a frequency of 23 TSC (490 MHz);

ONT at a frequency of 25 TSC (506 MHz);

STV at a frequency of 52 TSC (722 MHz);

RTR-Belarus at a frequency of 41 TSC (634 MHz).

Currently the terrestrial broadcasting of the compulsory public package of television programs with DVB-T standard in this settlement is carried out from RTTS Volozhin at a frequency of 58 TSC (770 MHz), the service-area radius of the transmitter is 26 km.

To receive the compulsory public package of television programs, the following things are required: DVB-T standard and MPEG-4 encoding format (compression) supported TV set or a digital set-top box with the same parameters, which can be connected to a TV set; a separate receiving TV antenna with UHF waves (470-862 MHz) and with horizontal polarization. The receiving antenna should be oriented to RTTS.

In accordance with the schedule of the phased shutdown of analog television broadcasting, the next shutdown is planned on March 10, 2015 at RTTS in the rural settlement Osveya of Vitebsk region.

Additionally, in order to expand the range of terrestrial digital television broadcasting services and to optimize the process of transition from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting, including by means of providing the subscribers with the necessary receiving equipment, Beltelecom provides the services of ZALA commercial terrestrial digital television broadcasting in the town Volozhin and Volozhin district from February, 2015.

DVB-T2 standard is used for commercial terrestrial digital television broadcasting (multiplex 2 and 3), Verimatrix system is selected as a conditional access system.

At the same time full use of the existing DVB-T system which enables free public viewing of compulsory public package of television programs using the digital set-top box of DVB-T2 standard is provided.
