Anti-Bullying School Assembly Program Expands Again

The Durham Bulls have announced the return of the team's anti-bullying program, Bully Busters, which begins its third year this week. The initiative, which debuted in 2014, provides free school assemblies to elementary schools in Durham, Wake and Orange counties to raise awareness for a priority issue.

Using the team's famous mascot Wool E. Bull as the main character, each interactive assembly teaches students how to recognize bullying behavior and what do to should they witness or experience bullying. At the conclusion of the 20-minute assembly, students take the Bully Buster Pledge with the show's emcee. Students are then provided a packet of information and are asked to take the pledge once again at home with their families to reinforce what was taught throughout the program. Should students complete the pledge at home, they are rewarded with two complimentary tickets to a Durham Bulls game this spring.

After reaching 31 schools in 2015, over 35 schools have already booked Bully Buster performances for 2016 as schools continue to sign up for shows. The Bulls began the program in February in 2014 and 2015, but will begin shows in January this year as demand for the program continues to increase.

We're extremely excited to bring back Bully Busters for a third year, Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said. The return of the program means that the initiative continues to grow, and means Wool E. Bull is helping more and more kids learn about a serious topic affecting every school. We're thrilled we can play a part in the education of young Bulls fans about a meaningful issue.
