Babar's 80th Anniversary Celebrations Continue at U.S. Retail in 2012
New Yorks Books of Wonder Event and Luxury U.S. Retail Deal
(Toronto, Canada) The 80 th anniversary celebrations continue for Babar the elephant this year as Nelvana Enterprises and The Clifford Ross Company announce that Babar will be the featured property for the month of November 2012 at New York Citys famous Books of Wonder, the citys premiere independent childrens bookstore.
Vintage Babar will also be the focus for Holiday 2012 with a major luxury U.S. retailer including YOTTOY plush in -store and online, a Holiday window presence and special in-store activities. More details on this exciting initiative will be announced in the coming months!
In November, t he entire Books of Wonder store at 18 West 18th Street will feature Vintage Babar branding, as well as a dedicated gallery space which will exhibit rare works of original and limited edition Babar artwork; exclusive merchandise within dedicated Babar in-store boutiques; multiple book readings and special in-store events throughout the month, all in celebration of Babars 80 th anniversary.

Books of Wonder is thrilled to participate in the celebration of Babars 80th Anniversary. The legend of Babar, known for his famous green suit and red tie, began when Ccile de Brunhoff invented a bedtime story for her sons: a tale of a little elephant living in the jungle whose mother was killed by a hunter. Her husband, Jean de Brunhoff, saw how enraptured their sons were by the story, and decided to create an illustrated book about it and name the elephant "Babar." Their son, Laurent, began illustrating the books after Jeans passing. The first Babar book was published in 1931 by Editions du Jardin des Modes. Hachette Jeunesse added Babar to its catalogue in 1936, and, to date, over 75 books have been published in 27 different languages with more than 13 million copies sold worldwide.
Last year, Abrams Books for Young Readers released the latest book from Laurent de Brunhoff, Babars Celesteville Games and has reissued his classic Babar books in a new format as the 80th anniversary celebrations continue.
The books were adapted into an animated TV show, with the latest CG series, Babar and the Adventures of Badou, chronicling the adventures of Babar and his grandson Badou, broadcasting to rave reviews around the globe. The series is a Canada-France co-production from the Nelvana Studio and TeamTO, in association with The Clifford Ross Company and TF1.

Founded in 1985 by artist/photographer Clifford Ross, The Clifford Ross Company focused on three classic properties during its early years: the works of Edward Gorey, Tom Swiftand Babar. After optioning the rights to Babar in 1986 directly from Laurent de Brunhoff and the de Brunhoff family, CRC entered into a working relationship with Nelvana on all aspects of the property. For over 20 years, the companies have worked together producing both television and feature length movies featuring the Babar characters and developing a worldwide licensing program.
