Technicolor and Foxtel Bring Smarter TV Services to Australia

Technicolor's Android TV-based technology in the Foxtel Now hybrid set-top box delivers OTT and live TV content together with apps and games to Australia's homes.

Technicolor is enabling pay-TV providers to respond to the changing expectations of customers and deliver the best entertainment experience.

Foxtel, Australia's leading pay-TV provider, has integrated Technicolor's Android TV-based technology into its Foxtel Now next-generation hybrid set-top box.

Technicolor has been an incredibly valued partner throughout the process of bringing the Foxtel Now box to market in the short couple of months that followed the launch of our Foxtel Now service, said Mike Ivanchenko, Foxtel's Group Director, Product Design and Development, and we couldn't be happier having them on board to support the continued roll out of this fantastic new device.

The Foxtel Now set-top box offers subscribers access to their video on demand service and includes additional features such as built-in Chromecast support; OTT access to YouTube and Android TV apps from the Google Play Store; seamless access to live OTA content; and support for 4K UHD video and the best video streaming experience.

According to Georges Laplanche, Head of Connected Home APAC at Technicolor, Foxtels adoption of Android TV and the hybrid set-top box is an example of how pay-TV providers are responding to the changing expectations of their customers.

Foxtel is leading the way by giving Australian consumers a new digital experience, said Laplanche. They can access OTA TV and Internet content at home using a single device. Foxtel and Technicolor have worked together to custom build a device that brings high quality streamed content and innovative Internet TV experiences to Australia.
