IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) is one of the world's leading events for the media, entertainment, and technology sectors, bringing together professionals from across the globe to explore the latest innovations, trends, and insights shaping the future of the industry. This year, HPA was on the ground and on the stage. President Seth Hallen, alongside board members Leon Silverman, Renard Jenkins, and Chuck Parker, as well as Executive Director Phil Kubel, actively engaged with the HPA community throughout the event at the RAI.
Here are a few thoughts and takeaways from Team HPA as they look back on exploring the latest trends from the show floor, participating in programming, and meeting HPA members and future members:
At IBC 2024, I had the privilege of organizing and introducing a dynamic panel titled Creative Catalysts: Unlocking Artistic Potential with Generative AI, with panelists Renard Jenkins, Mario Hil, and Stan Moote, said President Seth Hallen, where we explored the transformative impact of AI on creative workflows. As our industry continues to integrate AI tools into content creation, this session highlighted how these technologies can remove the burden of repetitive tasks, empowering artists to focus on innovation and storytelling.
Beyond the panel, I was struck again this year by how IBC serves as a true global gathering, offering a space for exploration and knowledge exchange. The event reaffirmed for me that while AI and other emerging technologies are at the forefront of discussions, the core focus remains on the human element-how these tools can amplify creativity rather than replace it. This year's IBC felt like a milestone, with the industry navigating transformative shifts while continuing to push the boundaries of storytelling. As I look back, the most significant takeaway from IBC 2024 is that AI isn't just a frontier technology; it's a powerful catalyst for human creativity.
Executive Director Phil Kubel added, As the HPA community continues to grow, it is inspiring to connect with our members on a global stage. This year's IBC was outstanding and filled with energy. From the show floor to the deep conversations, it was amazing to learn how our colleagues are developing the future.
Board Member Renard Jenkins hosted a session focused on artists and AI tools. This year's IBC had a heavy focus on AI, like the rest of the industry. He concluded, Because a lot of the innovation is taking place in the content creation sphere, it's important that HPA be not only present but also participatory.
Chuck Parker, also on the HPA Board, emphasized the value of IBC for the HPA community: As we continue to witness unprecedented innovation in media production, attending IBC is essential for HPA members to stay ahead, connect with global leaders, and see firsthand the cutting-edge technology shaping our industry's future.
But it wasn't just the HPA board and staff who took to Amsterdam; HPA members were well represented at IBC, including major players like:
AJA, Absen, Avid, Ateliere, AWS, Backlight, Blackmagic Design, B&H, Boland, Cast Labs, Dell, Disguise, Dolby, Editshare, Eizo, Eluvio, Emotion Systems, Flanders Scientific, Hammerspace, HP, Kino Flo, LucidLink, NAGRA, Pace Anti-Piracy, Perfect Memory, PixitMedia, Quantum, ROE, Seagate, Signiant, SDVI, SONY, Spectra, Telestream, Teradek, Twelve Labs, Wasabi, Weka, Xperi, and Xytech.
Hallen concluded: IBC reminded me how vital it is to stay attuned to where the winds of innovation are blowing and how these gatherings provide a platform for collaboration and discovery.
