PHABRIX suprises at IBC 2014 with 4K and ALL UHDTV1 formats announcement The big news on the stand for PHABRIX at IBC 2014 was 4K and its worlds first announcement of a 12 Gb/s eye supporting ALL UHDTV1 and 4K formats. PHABRIX kept their big news under warps allowing invitation only customers into the stand office to see the new technology at work and witness the 12Gb/s eye in operation.
Once inside PHABRIX were keen to show off the established Rx chassis now supporting the new 4K card. Having promised early adopters of the Rx rack mount modular instrument that the product was future proofed as new technologies come along, the Rx now supports SD, HD, 3G and 4K UHDTV capability with the addition of the new module.
The Rx card supporting this technology has 4 x 12 Gps inputs and outputs making a staggering 48 Gaps capacity, more than enough for ALL UHDTV1 and many of the UHDTV2 payloads.
The chipsets that make this possible are not available until early in the 2015 so expect 4K cards on the Rx rack mount modular system at NAB 2015. By demonstrating the technology early using pre-engineering chips, PHABRIX were keen to pose the question why buy another product that doesn t support every 4K format when you can wait a few months and have the best in the business on its establish Rx chassis with its multi window presentation .
Phillip Adams, founder of PHABRIX added, We are working with leading edge technology not yet commercially available to the market hence our decision to release at NAB 2015. There are serious limitations with current 4K and UHDTV product offerings. What we are demonstrating offers a complete solution supporting 4 x 12 GB/s SDI (48 GB/s) and optical interconnects based upon next generation FPGA technology. Cutting through the confusion is what we have always strived to do at PHABRIX. I welcome talking to fellow technologists to understand the application of our new technology in solving some of the problems they foresee migrating to 4K and UHDTV1 formats.
Paul Nicholls, sales and marketing for PHABRIX commented;
The stand was crazy this year, we had people blocking the aisles. The 4K UHDTV announcement was certainly pulling the high end broadcast manufacturers, but we haven t been holding back on our other Rx rack mount developments either. New toolsets include A/V generation, an amazing audio down mix matrix which turns the Rx into a fantastic audio/video QC test and measurement combination. With closed caption support, AFD/VI/WSS, V-Chip indication and dual Dolby decode for Dolby E, D and D plus, the Rx displays 17 instruments at a time at 1920 x 1080 via HDMI or SDI output. Did I forget to say it can do this on 4 simultaneous inputs and on SDI or fibre both interfaces are built into the modules.
We re known for our handheld products so the new A/V delay generator on show becomes part of the standard toolset. Our new TAG shown at IBC is the most cost effective hand held instrument on the market today with composite, SDI and optical interfaces. With fibre going in everywhere, you simply add a SFP and you have an optical or an additional copper interface. We have also introduced a new product variant the TAGC at IBC. A big brother of the TAG, the extra C is for a combined generator bundled in the price. Now you have a generator, analyser and monitor for analogue, SDI and optical in one easy to carry portable. Oh and please ask us about the price every engineer will love the value.
The PHABRIX SxE was a popular product on the stand with its eye and jitter toolset and continues to be a first choice for most broadcaster engineers requiring portable physical layer analysis. The new free A/V generator released end of October adds even more capability to this top of the range instruments that s easy to carry into any broadcast environment. Dolby E, Dolby D and Dolby D Plus analysis and generation makes the SxE a perfect video and audio broadcast fault finder.
PHABRIX also displayed a lot more literature at the show than other years and its new 2014 brochure has been designed with the same quality of a high end car brochure. The detail in the brochure captures exactly what PHABRIX is very good at - clear information delivered to the end user in an easy to understand package.
