City Greenlights New Original Comedy Series Young Drunk Punk From Comedic Icon Bruce McCulloch
New 13-episode scripted comedy series is created, written, and executive produced by McCulloch (Kids in the Hall)
Homegrown series to be co-produced by Toronto-based Accent Entertainment and Calgary-based SEVEN24 Films
TORONTO/BANFF (June 11, 2014) City has greenlit a new, single-camera, half-hour comedy series Young Drunk Punk from Kids in the Hall funny-man Bruce McCulloch. Developed and commissioned by Rogers, to be co-produced by Accent Entertainment and SEVEN24 Films, Young Drunk Punk is currently in development with production slated to begin summer 2014. The series will air on City, with additional broadcast details to be announced at a later date.
Set in Calgary in the 1980s, Young Drunk Punk is a semi-autobiographical take on a coming-of-age journey, told through the unique point-of-view of McCulloch. Young Drunk Punk focuses on two young men Ian and Shinky who have recently graduated from high school and don't quite feel that they belong. The series follows them as they embark on a hilarious and rebellious search to find out who they are, somewhere in the lost years between high school and what's next.
We're excited to be working with Bruce to bring this uniquely funny and relatable story to Canadians, said Nataline Rodrigues, Director of Original Programming, Rogers Media. Told through McCulloch's distinctive comedic voice, this series has a winning combination of humour and heart that will resonate with viewers from coast-to-coast, further strengthening Rogers's commitment to bring audiences premium content.
I am thrilled to work with Rogers to bring this series to life, said McCulloch, Creator, Writer, and Executive Producer of Young Drunk Punk. Hopefully it will serve as a poor, but ultimately redemptive example for high school graduates today, who are not certain of their future plans."
The original series is produced by Accent Entertainment and SEVEN24 Films. Bruce McCulloch serves as Executive Producer, alongside Susan Cavan from Accent Entertainment, and Jordy Randall and Tom Cox from SEVEN24 films. From Rogers Media, Carol Commisso is Production Executive, Nataline Rodrigues is Director of Original Programming, and Hayden Mindell is Vice President of Television Programming & Content.
